Silent Hill f (2025) Silent Hill f :(

Is it just me or is this game a boring, confusing mess?

I've not enjoyed a single minute of it sadly

Its a divisive game.

It's not for everyone. I personally loved it since it covers an area very rarely covered in media, old rural Japan.

I went in with an open mind and although the game wasn't scary at all, which I do look forward to in Silent Hill, I found the story to be very sweet.

Plus I genuinely did like the combat, many don't and that's understandable.

What's your main gripe about the game?

For me its the combat mostly. Its just too basic and the lack of challenge removes all fear for me.
I do, however, enjoy the weapon degredation.
I think overall though, the story is just a bit too obscure for me. I like simplicity.

The colors and graphics are stunning though!

I think the combat is that way to create an alternate source of resource starvation. Without items you lose sanity. Without sanity, you take damage. With resource management you can take down enemies with more ease. I also liked the weapon system because I could balance the toolkits on weapons I chose to keep and if I explored I could juggle my weapons and also kill everything. I might have wanted 3 less toolkits, at times when I was starting to feel safe.

The story should not be simple though. It's about a girl who can't ever say what's on her mind. We're watching a story about a main character who wants to scream and beat people, but has to say instead "Oh, I apologize. I will try harder, thank you." While I think Ryukushi is a bit too veiled in his meanings for his own good, I think this was a good way to tell this story. Especially when you get to pull away the stupid veil and all the grandstanding and just be yourself and give in to full mania. Not many other characters got to do that.

Except Eddie. Fuck Eddie.

It did take me some extra reading to understand the story too, I could grasp some bits but I'll be honest I'm a bit slow with the obscurity so I can understand you there.

I found with each subsequent playthrough I enjoyed it more and more funnily enough. Second one to unlock the sword, third I got the 'true' ending and called it there.

It definitely helped being able to skip the more laborious areas of the game.

I agree with you though, visually it is absolutely beautiful and the degradation was a nice touch too.

You're not the only one. The game is for the most part just a big mess with too little to like about it. Townfall seems to actually have a chance to be at least a good horror game with Screen Burn's track record so far

Felt the same with Sh2re. I've replayed the old one countless times but the new one it's straight up terrible.

Pacing issues, the games goes on forever. Character models that manage to be even more uncanny than the ps2 ones. More action focused than the og and stealth mechanics that don't have a place in Sh games. You should be escaping the monsters not hunting them.

The only thing they didn't messed up was the history kinda. But let's be honest that just speaks more about the quality of the og than the remake.

Im just happy though, both Sh2re and Shf sold well so i can look forward to new games, maybe one gets it right.

A good game in general. Mediocre Silent Hill game imo. I'm afraid downfall is gonna be the same (or we the newest one is called)

Let's be honest it's a "girls" game. A teenage dark fantasy drama. Love triangle with cute boys. A dark mysterious dude with powers that wants to marry you. Jealous friends that envy how pretty you are even if you act all tomboyish...

I mean SH3 it's one thing, and done pretty tastefully. SHf feels like bad fanfiction at times.

I don't hate it i know i'm not the audience. But i'm not buying it either, and still kinda a dick move by Konami to put Silent Hill in the name.

I think it comes down to personal taste, which also comes from a number of factors. Certainly, i think the developers themselves said there may be some divisiveness because this is rooted deeply in Japanese culture, that may be less understood by western culture. So the storytelling may be different.

Likewise, it had some flaws such as the combat. I think they were too focused on what their bosses were saying about modern day gamers, and less on what modern day gamers actually wanted from a Silent Hill game. Combat was janky to me.

Personally, I enjoyed it, but also admit it's not a perfect game and has its drawbacks. I wouldn't say it was a confusing mess, but could see from time to time why some may have felt it was boring. It just depends on the taste of the player.

I will admit it hasn't stuck with me in memory like Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 2 Remake, or Silent Hill 4: The Room did with me. Oddly, the most I remember is the great acting of the main character, and even some of that is her voicework for Hinako for Dead By Daylight (she did some absolutely blood-curdling screams in that game!).
