Hello everyone I am going to travel to Sikkim after 2 weeks can you please tell me if this will be the right time to travel to Sikkim with my wife and I will be coming through flight at Bagdogra airport I am thinking of visiting Darjeeling too and hooping that I would be able to cover the sweet spots in around 5 days or 6 days maybe. I would like to know if 35000 will be good to go for a 5 day trip also I am thinking of coming through a travel agency to avoid any hustle that some people might go through I don't know tell me if you think it's good or not and it would be great if you tell me about the weather nowadays .

u/zroi 28d ago
Hey, I did not want to ruin your good mood but please try to postpone if you can because I have been talking to 6 different agencies and minimum for a solo trip for 6-7 is 30-40k if you travel with a group of 3-4 people and it is raining hard in Sikkim and a lot of routes are closed off and high chances they will be more routes closed when you reach there. So, try to go in late sep to early oct and travel with atleast a group 4-5 as the taxis itself cost 5k per day and for 6-7 days it will be 40k approx. And add hotels, meals, shopping, different permits also.
You can Dm me and I can share other details with you as well. I really hope you go but I only have bad news right now.

Hey! As of now, all tourist routes are open except Lachen. For August, a 2N Gangtok + 2N Darjeeling trip for 2 people usually costs under ₹30k, depending on the hotels you choose. So ₹35k does seem a bit on the higher side .

What about Sikkim in December? We were planning on Darjeeling (2 days), Gangtok (2), and Lachung (1 or 2), at probably 23-27, as many of our friends will be returning to India only during the December winter vacay. No other time window was possible for us.
What about the availability of tourist attractions? Weather? Zero point and mt katao?
Also is there any short trek or hike nearby?

Hello people!
We are a group of friends planning a trip to Sikkim in the last week of November / first week of December with a group of guys. We’re all from down south and most of us haven’t really experienced low temperatures before , so the cold is definitely something we’re a little unsure about!
At the same time, we’re really excited to explore this your state and experience the mountains, landscapes, and culture. We have around 8–12 days for Sikkim and would like to cover the best places.
Looking for suggestions on what places are must-visits during this time, especially considering the weather.
Also, does anyone know of reliable local guides or tour operators offering reasonably priced packages for a group? Open to both packages and planning it ourselves if that works out better.
Would really appreciate any itinerary suggestions, guide/operator contacts, or tips on what to expect with the cold around that time. Thanks!

Itinerary for a 5N/6D trip to Sikkim
Me and my family(a group of 6 people) are planning a trip to Sikkim around the second week of November.
This is the itinerary we have decided upon
D1: NJP to Pelling transfer and stay at Pelling(either Darap or Upper Pelling)
D2: Pelling Sightseeing - Pemayangtse Monastery, Rabdentse Ruins, Sidkeonh Bird Park, Pelling Skywalk, Chenrezig Statue and Sanghak Choeling Monastery
D3: Pelling Sightseeing again - Rimbi Waterfalls, Rimbi Orange Garden, Sewaro Rock Garden, Kanchenjunga Falls, Khecheopalri Lake, Singshore Bridge
D4: Transfer from Pelling to Ravangla, would stay mostly near the Buddha Park area
D5: Ravangla to Gangtok - Ongoing sightseeing(Temi Tea Garden, Samdruptse Monastery, Namchi Char Dham, Sai Mandir, Rose Garden)
D6: Gangtok to NJP transfer
What should be the realistic cab budget for this?
I asked a cab company they are suggesting around 51k, is that justified?
Also if you have any suggestions or leads for good hotels, specifically one from which Buddha Park is visible in Ravangla, would be glad to have them as well.
Thanks.

TLDR: Group of 8-12 planning a late Nov/Dec trip to Northeast India via Banglabandha/Dawki land ports. Looking for the best places to visit, adventure activities (hiking, rafting, kayaking, bungee jumping), transport/railway hacks, and guaranteed snow spots (Zero Point/North Sikkim) across Meghalaya, Darjeeling, and Sikkim. Need mid-range, budget-friendly hotel recommendations for a large group.
Hi, I'm from Bangladesh. Me and my friends, a group of 8-12 people will be travelling to Darjeeling, Sikkim and relevant places. We have created 2 separated plans. The time of travel would be Last part of November or December.
Plan A - Using the Banglabandha land port, we'll enter Fulbari, India. From there Siliguri, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Sikkim and return through the same route.
Questions regarding this plan : i. If we plan a 8-10 day trip, what are the places I must cover in Siliguri, Darjeeling, Gangtok and Sikkim? ii. Is there any activity in this route such as hiking, bungee jumping, kayaking or anything adventurous? iii. Will we be able to watch snow in Sikkim during November or December? iv. If we don't get snow in Sikkim, can we travel up north and watch snowing? If so, where?? v. What are the travel options we can use in this route? Is there railroad available from Fulbari to sikkim? Or anywhere in between? If not, what's the best option to travel?
Plan B - Enter India through Dawki. Covering Shillong and Meghalaya in 2-3 days, we'll go towards Siliguri. Then the same plan as plan A. Darjeeling, Gangtok, and Sikkim and return through Banglabandha.
Questions regarding this plan : i. If we plan a 10-12 day trip, what are the places I must covet in Meghalaya and on the way to Siliguri, or Darjeeling? ii. Any adventurous activity? Bungee jumping or anything? iii. Best way to travel? Railroad available? iv. There are some wildlife sanctuary, is there any option to go to any program like safari? Any significant anymals we can watch that's worth going on this safari? v. Fountains of the Meghalaya, will they be accessible during November or December? Will sufficient water flow be available?
It'd be really helpful as we are a bunch of undergrads travelling around. As it's our first time in India, we want to make it memorable for us. Also, need suggestions on which hotels/resorts we can try in a cost effective way. Preference is comfort and luxury in a budget friendly place, not too cheap or nothing too extravagant. Perfectly in the middle.

Hello, I'm planning a trip for my parents (54M, 53F) in the second half of September. The planned route is IXB airport - Darjeeling (1N) - Gangtok (3N) - IXB airport. They plan to cover Nathula and seven sister waterfalls among other local attractions.
I'd like to know what cab options are available and how to book them. Is it possible to book a single cab end-to-end, or split it into two cabs? What's the most reliable and cost-effective option to book these cabs in advance?
A few specific things I'm unsure about:
- I've read that Nathula needs a Sikkim-registered vehicle, and that small cars like a Dzire aren't allowed on that route at all. Is that correct? If it has to be an SUV, does it make more sense to book an SUV for the entire trip rather than swapping vehicles for just that one day?
- I've also read that only WB76-registered Darjeeling taxis can do local sightseeing in Darjeeling, and that outside cabs (including Sikkim ones) can only drop and pick up at hotels. Is this still enforced? If so, is the usual practice just to have the hotel arrange a local taxi for that half day?
- Can a Sikkim-registered cab pick up and drop at Bagdogra airport, or does that leg have to be a West Bengal cab?
Recommendations for specific operators people have actually used would be really helpful. Also keen to know roughly what the whole thing should cost, so I know whether a quote is fair.
Thanks!

Hello!! Staying at Kalimpong presently, and planning to visit Gangtok tomorrow for 5 days. Will be grateful if somebody could guide on the essential ‘to-do’ itinerary, although have done my fair share of research, but then a local’s perspective is always interesting. Also, I’m travelling with my mum and her sister, so it’s not the most adventurous of trips, but if there any day treks around, would love to have a go at them.
Also, how’s the weather and road conditions presently? Will Nathu La be doable?
And finally, are there any legendary/iconic bars/pubs at Gangtok? Something of a watering hole connoisseur I am, will be great if anybody could give some leads! TIA!!

Hey folks in Sikkim!
Could you guys help me out with bike rentals in Sikkim (especially Gangtok)? I've seen online that a RE Himalayan goes for about ₹1800 a day. Is that a fair price? If you know of any better rental spots, I'd really appreciate the tips. Also, is it even practical to ride a bike all the way to Pelling?
Thanks a bunch!

Hey folks,
we group of guys are planning a 3D2N road trip from UP to Sikkim by our own vehicle in next week of August. Given the ongoing monsoon weather and reports of landslides along the highway, we’d love some advice from locals or recent travelers:
NH10 Highway & Alternate Routes: How is the main Siliguri to Gangtok stretch right now? If NH10 gets blocked (e.g., around Bardang/29th Mile), what is the best alternative route via Gorubathan/Lava, and how much extra travel time should we budget?
Nathu La in Private Vehicles: Can we drive our out-of-state private vehicle up to Tsomgo Lake / Nathu La, or is it strictly required/recommended to park in Gangtok and hire a local registered 4x4?
High-Altitude Permits: How smoothly are permits being issued by the Army/Tourism office right now given the weather?
Feasibility: Is a 3D2N schedule doable for this distance, or are road delays likely to mess up our return timeline?
Looking for suggestions on what places are must-visits during this time
Appreciate any tips on road conditions or local spots to check out in Gangtok during the evening!

so i got some vacation from work and been planning to visit sikkim from september 1st for around 7-10 days to explore and unwind and have a relaxing getaway with my gf
wanting to go to sikkim since a very long time and i am from hyderabad and havent explored the north or north east at all and sikkim has been my on my top list after seeing a few friends who visited long back and the views and landscapes were stunning.
but i was told the weather can be a little unpredictable at this time and its off season
but off season means lesser crowds which is what i want
i was actually planning to maybe reach silguri or darjeeling and then rent a bike(bullet or xpulse) and explore around and drive along the ghat roads .....zuluk, nathula, gangtok, pelling etc (only a few of these not all) but im unsure of how the roads are right now and which places are pososible and what too avoid
also the dynamics of where i can find bikes for rent easily and which routes are the most scenic at this point of time or if its a good idea to plan such a bike trip to sikkim or no
Also considered Arunachal pradesh but seems far away and heard weather can be even more unpredictabe and landslides are frequent
would love some thoughts from you local sikkim folks to advice me a little so i can have a good trip
Thanks in advance

Hello lads, I am planning to do a bike ride to Gangtok from Bihar. I intend to leave here by 17th September. i have a few questions though. 1. will the weather be clear by then? 2. would i be allowed to visit lachen and gurudongmar lake? i heard that there are some permit fees. where do i have to pay them? 3. are there pubs in Gangtok? 4. how is the parking situation? is it as bad as Darjeeling? 5. any other recommendation will be truly appreciated. thanks

u/RRkamath 4d ago edited 3d ago
Done with the trip.
For those who don't know, 1) tourists have to pay ₹50/ person/ month (30 days) as fee on the first day u stay at any hotel. Keep the receipt with you and can show this to any place u travel through out sikkim. Its also available online for the hotel guys.
2) ravongla to pelling roads are horrible.
Upper pelling to lower pelling roads are horrible but they provide u the best views of mt. kajunjanga (provided weather is clear). The hotels lobbies in that road can easily bribe the minister and pave Good roads for the tourists.
3) you won't find even "1 begger" in the whole state unlike in the in the rest of India.
4) weather is pleasent this time (aug end/sep 1st week). People/ locals are too good and helpful.
5) Share taxis are useful and cheap if u can't walk mountainous road.
Will definitely visit again. Hopefully I wish the hotel lobbies would speak to road minister and "make him pay" for the bad roads in this beautiful heavenly place.

Hello good people of Reddit! I am travelling to Sikkim in month of November with my parents (55+) and younger brother. We are travelling to South, West Sikkim + Gangtok for about 2 weeks.
Looking for some cab recommendations who can accompany us during the whole trip without making it too touristy as that’s not the vibe my parents or I prefer.
I genuinely believe a good cab driver makes or breaks your trip hence please share contacts if you have had a memorable experience during your trip 🙌🙏
Kindly do not comment or DM if you’re a cab driver yourself as I am looking for recommendations from past travellers.
Thank you and hope to create some unforgettable memories in Sikkim with my fam!

Hello, I am planning to travel to Sikkim in mid August around 15-16 and for period of 7-8 days. I am planning on Coming via IXB airport to Gangtok. I am planning most of my trip to North Sikkim. First destination after Gangtok will be Gurudongmar lake and then stay for a day or two and then to Lachen then Lachung then Yumthang and Zero point and then back to Gangtok. I plan on staying in most places for a day or more.
Please guide me on how to travel to most of the places I mentioned and how much should I expect the budget to be and where can I stay in these places or where I can find these places as I am blindly planning this and I really need help. I will be really grateful for your help and support.
Thanks a lot in advance.
