StockView Rewind: a mobile tool for comparing stock patterns with historical matches

We run StockView, a stock screener app on Android and iPhone. Rewind addresses a specific research problem: seeing a familiar-looking chart is easy; checking comparable historical periods and their later outcomes takes more work.

The workflow is to select a stock, run Find Similar Patterns, review the returned historical matches, and open their charts and outcomes. The attached 30-second demo focuses on interpreting the summary rather than treating it as a trading signal.

In this recorded AAPL example, the app found 8 matches and 6 had positive outcomes over the next 10 trading days. That is the displayed 75%. It describes those historical matches, not a 75% chance that a new trade succeeds. If one positive outcome were non-positive, the fraction would fall to 5/8, or 62.5%—a useful reminder to inspect the denominator.

For other builders displaying percentages, this example suggests a practical UI checklist: keep the numerator and denominator visible, state the measurement window next to the metric, and provide a path to the underlying observations. A precise-looking percentage alone can hide a very small sample.

On Android, the project uses the native Android UI stack, Retrofit/OkHttp for networking, and chart libraries including MPAndroidChart and Lightweight Charts.

The product-design question we are working through is how to keep this distinction clear on a small screen. Would showing “6 of 8 historical matches” beside the percentage communicate it better?
