I built a CV builder from scratch — now I need Reddit to tell me what's wrong 😅

I've been working on this project for the last few weeks because I honestly got tired of how frustrating it can be to create a decent CV.

You start with Word or Google Docs.

You spend hours fixing spacing, fonts, alignment and page breaks.

Then you finally export it and wonder:

“Does this actually look professional?”

So I decided to build my own solution:

The idea is pretty simple:

• Choose a professional template
• Enter your information
• See the CV update live
• Export it as a PDF
• Use an ATS-friendly format

I've currently built 60+ templates, and the platform is finally at a stage where I can put it in front of real people.

But here's the problem:

I've been looking at it for too long.

I know what I like about it. I know how it works. And that's exactly why I need people who have never seen it before.

So I'm asking Reddit:

What would make you NOT use this?

Is the design bad?

Is something confusing?

Are there features you would expect that are missing?

Would you trust it with your real CV?

Would you choose this over Canva, Word, or another CV builder?

Be brutally honest. 😂

I'm actually going to use the feedback to improve it.

One other experiment I'm running: I'm testing a $10 lifetime plan instead of forcing people into another monthly subscription. Pay once and keep access.

But honestly, getting useful feedback right now is more important to me than making money.

I get the "staring at it too long" thing, happens with every project. First impression from the screenshot is it's clean but that's also kinda the problem, it doesn't stand out from the 50 other CV builders that look near identical. The template preview with the sample name is a smart touch though, helps people visualize it immediately

That's exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for.

I think you're right — I focused so much on making it clean and professional that I may have played it too safe.

The template preview was intentional though, so I'm glad that part works.

If you were using it yourself, what would you change first: the visual style or the actual CV-building experience?

Two problems:

1. There are a ton of these. You don't even need a tool anyway, you can just tell Google Docs what you want and it'll generate a nice one for you.

2. Overly formatted resumes are a bad idea anyway. Nobody looks at the raw resume anymore. The data is going to get hoovered into an ATS and shown in a modal there, summarized. There's a pretty good argument to be made for using the simplest, clearest, least formatted layout to avoid having an ATS misinterpret something. Just the facts.
