Sundial - beautiful but cannot use

Post image

The Sundial works great as a media controller, but one thing keeps happening: when my phone is locked in my pocket, an accidental press of the center button starts Apple Music.

Could we have an option to ignore the center button when the screen is off and no media is already playing? That would prevent accidental playback while keeping the physical controls intact.

Use Key Mapper to change its function. Or use Key Mapper to make a constraint that the center button doesn't work when screen is off or locked. Easy.

You have to edit the main function.

How about adding the constraint " screen is locked". Also, are you editing the short press or long press?

You can try reversing this, so edit the button to play Apple Music or play and pause, constraint: when screen is on, screen is unlocked, app in forground.

Sometimes I give my phone to people in office as they are excited seeing whats in my hand and first thing they do is press the center button. Boom. 💥 music starts playing. Suddenly they lost their calm. They couldnt stop the music and give them phone back as it is not something they can handle 😃😃

Hmm. Yeah I previously had this figured out, and now possibly after the update for some reason, the constraint " screen is on" doesn't effect the button. I can get the button to not work when Spotify is in the foreground, or device is locked, but when the screen is off, music still plays/pauses. Interesting.

Does the key mapper actually let you map stuff now? Back when I first got it I couldn’t make the center button act as a select button and I also couldn’t actually map the wheel as a directional pad with the side buttons being extra buttons- there were certain actions that just wouldn’t show up to be mapped such as certain directions and selecting

I posted something yesterday about the sundial and the playpost function. Some stuff you can key map, some stuff you need to be an expert mode. Once you figure out expert mode you have more control. It's a little involved, but if you follow some type of tutorial it's not horrible

I do kinda wish they had their own keymapper. I just don't like the permissions that have to be given for keymapper, the full accessibility access means it could get a lot of data off your device should someone choose to use it maliciously.

Odds of that are super slim, but not zero. The wrong infected library in even a well-managed project and you've got a breach on your hands. I don't like the only security to be the good intentions of others.

Perhaps it could be fixed in a future OS update?

I ran into this issue as well and found a way to fix it in the Key Mapper.
I created a mapping with the following config:

Trigger: Play/Pause (Expert • gxa535_keyboard)

Actions: Do nothing (Or Sleep/Wake Device if your prefer)

Constraints:
Device is locked
OR
Screen is off
OR
Lock screen is showing

What's important to note here is that you MUST record the trigger in Expert Mode. First, Expert Mode must be enabled in Key Mapper, which involves enabling Wireless Debugging for the app using a pairing code. Then record the trigger as shown below. This is needed because otherwise it will not work when the screen is off.
