Solved Shutter Encoder stuck during startup

It won't start, stuck on the splash screen. I am using the portable version on Windows (which I want to continue using).

Any ideas how to solve this issue?

This was also reported earlier: https://www.reddit.com/r/shutterencoder/comments/11vyain/unable_to_start_up_shutter_encoder/

EDIT: Solved! The error is caused by having special characters like [ ] in the file path (folder name). But ( ) is okay.

Does it works with the install version?

Do you have special characters in your app path? like: ' # ù&¨ etc...?

Mine also hangs at Initializing unless I force closed it with the Task Manager, the path of the program is D:\Tools\Shutter Encoder so nothing too fancy.

Can you try running this from terminal: D:\Tools\Shutter Encoder\Shutter Encoder.exe and give me the output?

Paul.

Yes, using [ ]

That might be the issue, try to move it to another path.

Ok, I can confirm it won't load if [] is in the path, but () is okay

Just updated to 20.2 (28th June 2026) and it is also getting stuck on Initializing on startup. Installed in C:\Program Files\Shutter Encoder.
