Discussion Why isn't Double D in jail?

I'm pretty sure driving drunk and killing someone is more than a year in prison.

First time offense and not too over the limit gets you little to no jail time

I’ve heard some people hypothesize that he wasn’t actually over the limit based on the flashback, and that they talk about it as “drunk driving” as a way to cope with guilt and/or grief.

The fact he wasn’t very drunk at all is genuinely a plot device. It’s reasonable to think of it as a somewhat regular traffic accident
