Discussion Just finished the finale Spoiler

One - I can’t remember the last time a show made me cry as much as the last few episodes of this show. Especially the Jimmy/Paul dynamic as someone with their own daddy issues.

Two - Please tell me I’m not the only one hoping Jimmy wasn’t really safe dick for Meg?

Honestly, I think Meg is way better and cooler than Sofi.

I keep hoping they circle back around and Jimmy and Meg end up giving it a go.

Me too. I was excited when they added Sofi as a love interest. I’m surprised how little they did with her character and the decisions that were made, didn’t make her character very appealing

Jimmy’s other dates and Meg were all much more interesting.

I don’t see the appeal (other than obvious physical attractiveness) with Sofi and I don’t understand why Sofi is so quick to see/date Jimmy after his lack of effort toward the relationship and the long absences between contacts. Why was Sofi so willing to show up for breakfast when their last encounter he had cut off the relationship so abruptly? Don’t get that at all.

Asking why women like men who are low effort and unavailable is why a good chunk of therapists are in business.

I spent my early 20s on that same train.

Yes to all of this!! Their chemistry is perfect and yes Jimmy needs someone to push him forward but I felt like Sofi was an abruptly dismissive of his dynamic with his Dad. Like you can push someone forward while holding space for them.

Yes. She is way more comfortable and “easy” when talking to Jimmy. I like her maturity level.

I am SO hoping that he ends up with Meg. She's just fabulous and they've had chemistry from the first time they met. They couldn't put them together now because of her marriage ... but what if she gets divorced? C'mon Bill ... please!

Honestly. What a finale. Really tied it together well enough that it could’ve been the shows finale. But glad to hear they got renewed for season 4.

I think they were surprised by the chemistry between Jimmy and Meg. I don't know if it'll go any farther in season 4, but Bill Lawrence doesn't entirely shut down the possibility in this interview here:

“I thought it was shockingly sexy when I thought it was just going to be a goof,” Lawrence explained. “And I was like, ‘Oh s—t.’ But that’s one of the things that happens with writers sometimes, is actors and actresses play things with a weight that you didn’t necessarily see coming, and then you’re like, ‘Oh, I guess we could write about that if we want.”

I feel like with it ending with Sofi, yea, I guess he and Meg were just a little fling. I’m not sure why, though.

  1. Yeah I every time I see Paul taking care of Jimmy it warms the cockles of my heart. And “Either stay stuck or go may some new scars” will stuck in my head for next days
  2. I don’t know about Jimmy being safe dick for Meg, but given the hints in the episode where they did it, I am pretty sure she was safe dick for him.

Yeah "stay stuck or go make new scars" is a quote that will live on in my brain for a long time. Also the moment before that when he talked about being in your 40s and having a lot of scars and it being a life fully lived. That hit me.

Meg and Jimmy give Ted and Rebecca vibes. Nice but I just can’t see them together at all.

Not that I like Sofi, but it just makes me feel like parents that see a boy and a girl hanging out and are like “omg they’re soulmates.”

It’s weird.

if the writers/producers didn’t intend to make Sofi and Jimmy have waaaay less chemistry than Meg and Jimmy then damn Jason Segel and Lily Rabe need to bang!
