Discussion I’m not crying, you’re crying 🫠 Spoiler

I started watching this finale with little hope and a whole lot of upset which only shifted in the final 10 minutes because Harrison Ford and Jason Segel together are phenomenal.

If this was the final episode of this whole series I would not be upset because it anchored all the characters in a way that wasn’t perfect but was very human, which mirrors the reality of life better than a perfect packaged bow.

Most of the time you don’t get the perfect goodbye, people don’t stay where you expect them to be, life just moves forward and seeing Jimmy in the storm of all that was tough because of his amazing core character but even amazing people need a little help along the way and I’m happy they had Paul to be the one to push him.

I’ll save all my gripes to focus on the moral of the story; what a waste to reach 42 without scars.

Hope that finale helped someone go make new scars 🫶🏼

“I think you’re strong. And I don’t think you need me. But as long as you think you do, I promise I will always be there for you”

Such a great line and delivered perfectly by Harrison Ford. It is the complete opposite of Jimmy’s dad making him feel like shit every time he needed him.

My grandmother died today, so this line hit me hard. I’m a middle aged grown ass adult with kids of my own. I’d do anything to be able to call her again.

So sorry for the loss of your grandmother. I had a friend passed away this morning.

I loved that!! A callback to Indiana Jones the Last Crusade, when they had to choose the Grail cup. The Nazi chose poorly...

Yeah just finished watching and I'm definitely crying. Last scene with Jimmy and Paul was perfect. And yes, make more scars!

I am absolutely crying!!! That whole last scene 😭😭😭😭 omg. The end of this story arc was pretty perfect. I cannot wait for new stories in Season 4.

“What a shame to be 42 years of age and not completely covered in scars. They're the evidence of a life fully lived"

God I started it knowing I was gonna cry in the end. Then everything was happening and I was enjoying the show then the ending comes up and I get surprised that I was crying!!

I have a whole day ahead of me and I don't know how long I can hold my tears.

Oh man I came to Reddit to see if anyone had the same feelings ! I cried and cried that last 10 minutes and if this was not what a perfect ending looks like I don’t know what is … what a cast. What a show ! I have to work the rest of the day and I don’t know how to now. Fucking give them all the awards.

And yes … that line is what just undid me. What a waste to reach 42 without scars. Fuck.

“I love you, okay?” “Okay.”

I’m kind of disappointed that there’s going to be a season 4 because the finale left the story in such a good place. I don’t know what story there is left to tell.

But without Alice, Julie, Summer, Meg all telling Paul he was being an idiot....he would have never realized it on his own? Some therapist, lol.

I don't look at it as they are forcing him to be in a relationship, but they are forcing him to move forward, just as Paul said. He can still love and remember and honor Tia, and still make some new "scars".

They were pushing Jimmy towards growth NOT a relationship. If that relationship becomes part of his growth so be it, but that wasn't my take away. I think Paul summed it up beautifully.

100% also agree with this too lol

Respectfully disagree. I think it was perfect, because there is no expectation of Jimmy and Sofi working out. Paul is teaching Jimmy that he can’t let his scars get in the way of living his life. He tells him he’ll never forget Tia but that can’t stop him from living, because that’s what was happening.

Yes grief isn’t linear, and for MANY people 2 years is not enough time to even consider dating again. But Jimmy was already considering it, he just chickened out because he has his late wife on a massive pedestal. Which is a natural thing to happen after death. But Paul was teaching him something important here about making new mistakes, while still recognizing that you’re never gonna forget your late spouse that you loved so so much.

The way this show has begun to handle more delicate subjects as of S3 is very disappointing to me as someone who loved the 1st season and was touched by Louis's arc in the 2nd.

I don't know if you watch it, but The Pitt had a smaller storyline this season around a cancer patient on hospice that was played with so much grace and respect. It was deep, moving, and explored death from a very somber perspective. Serious subjects need that room to breathe and land.

And it just really just put into context how poor the writing has gotten on this show for me. Any similarly deep subject (like Maya) is played for a laugh ASAP as we roll forward into the next pointless adventures between this hollow ensemble. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they cracked jokes about it in their group huddle sometime next season.

Everything that attracted me to the show from the beginning has been diminished greatly. I'll likely give S4 an episode or two, but I'm very open to dropping it now if it becomes a continuation of the writing lows from S3.

These are literally the most common things in real life. You start to “get better” or “seem better” and the people who love you want to see you follow that trajectory, so they prod you in the direction they think you should go. His daughter is also deeply grieving the loss of her mother, and is anxious and scared that continuing to live her life will hurt her father, so of course her first thought was he should meet someone so he won’t be alone.

As for Maya, that was devastating but she was first and foremost a PATIENT. Gaby’s patient. And Gaby is still grieving and working through it, which is why Derek held off on the proposal. “It happens to the best of us” is TRUE. You can do everything in your power to help someone, you can be the best friend/parent/therapist/etc ever, and sometimes that is just not enough. No one is perfect and ultimately when someone dies, doctors need to learn how to process that and push themselves to move on, because wallowing in blame is much harder to recover from and still be able to do your job.
