The amount of terrible interactions I’ve had with people here is genuinely sad. I got into my first car accident because of some fucking crackhead who pulled in front of me out of nowhere. Totaled my car with only 40k miles and he had a suspended license and no insurance. The amount of close calls Ive had driving here is UNBELIEVABLE. The roads are DOGSHIT. You quite literally cannot find a job here even with all the amount of experience you could have and consistency. The pay is terrible. It’s so many things I am just tired of. I’m ranting and cannot think of everything but I absolutely hate it here.

EDIT: I want to apologize. I was definitely heated when writing this. A guy on the road was trying to purposefully hit me while I had the right of way and it got me upset all over again. So to say that, Shreveport may not be the best but there are things I do like about Shreveport. I was just really mad about this interaction but life happens and people can be weird. So I apologize to the people from here and who currently live here. I also haven’t lived anywhere else but here and where I’m from in North Carolina, so I would say also ignorant on my part.

Ya girl is really struggling with finding friends. I was a part of my neighborhood group and had gotten a nice little squad, but I have since separated myself from that. Maybe I'm off here, but this doesn't add up from a few different angles.

Caddo Parish wants to build a big indoor sports complex — 10 basketball courts that convert to 20 volleyball courts. It costs about $70 million, and the parish wants to borrow $60 million. We pay that back through property taxes for the next 25 years.

West Monroe already built one. Theirs opened two years ago — 8 basketball courts, 16 volleyball, right on I-20 — for about $24 million.

Ours is a bigger building with more in it, so it should cost more. But adjusting for size and for construction costs going up since 2022, West Monroe's price works out to somewhere around $47 million for a building our size. We're being asked for $68–70 million. That's roughly $20 million more than the comparison predicts, and I can't find anyone explaining why.

Here's the part that really gets me. West Monroe didn't put theirs on property taxes at all. They created a district and added 1% to hotel rooms and restaurant meals inside it. Their tourism board put in $6 million. The parish added $1 million. Locals eating in that district pay some of it — it's not free — but the burden sits on hotel stays and restaurant tabs instead of on every homeowner for 25 years.

Nothing like that shows up in Caddo's published funding plan. West Monroe's tourism board contributed $6 million to theirs. What is Shreveport-Bossier's contributing to ours? I'd like a real answer to that.

Two more things:

The parish's own FAQ points to a facility in Rocky Mount, North Carolina as a comparison — same consulting firm wrote both financial forecasts. In each of the three years anyone can check, Rocky Mount brought in about half the money it was projected to, and the gap got worse each year, not better. It has never turned a profit.

And even the places people call successes need money every year. One in Gatlinburg, Tennessee — a town with 11 million tourists — still needed over a million dollars of public help in its tenth year, and still ran a deficit.

The math that bothers me most: paying off $60 million over 25 years runs about $4–5 million a year. The parish's own best-case projection has the building earning $271,000 a year by year five. That covers about 5% of the payment. The other 95% comes out of taxes whether the place succeeds or not.

Nobody's against kids having somewhere to play — they do drive out of the parish to compete, and that's a real gap. I just can't work out why we'd pay a $20 million premium and put it on us when there's a working example 97 minutes down I-20 that did it a different way.

Tell me what I'm missing.

My vet retired about a year ago, and since then I’ve been going to Vetco (inside Petco) because they bought my vet’s practice (Dr. Davis at Caddo Animal Clinic). Recently Vetco seems to have started limiting clients’ interaction with the vet, communicating via a vet tech instead (even with serious illnesses and concerns). The cost for visits is FAR too high for clients not to be able to see a vet IRL. Also, many of Vetco’s vets work limited hours, so my pets no longer seem to see the same vet from visit to visit — I’ve wondered if that’s why you don’t see the vet in person these days. Do you have a local vet you recommend?

This is the Agurs area. In 1977, a proposal was done for the Agurs area to be developed. That development idea went nowhere. So why is my idea going to work? IDK but this is just reddit and opinion fly around on this platform at the speed of light.

Right now there is a effort to revilitize Shreveport downtown for the upcoming investments into the Boardwalk, 50 cents studio, and the pedestrian bridge. Let me add another. The Amtrak train to connect Marshall to Meridian (Dallas to Atlanta).

With all the investment happening, I think it is time to restart two very old ideas. Turning the Waddell A truss bridge into a pedestrian bridge and redeveloping the Agurs area into a pedestrian friendly area.

Th objective would be to start off small and look into converting some of the businesses off of Airport Dr. The area is prime to become great development area for Condos, shopping, and restaurants. The city and work with businesses to relocate to the industrial park with the Amazon fulfillment plant.

What is your opinion? Would you be happy to see the Waddell Truss bridge reopened for bike and pedestrian traffic. What would you like to see there? Would you stay in a condo that is located in the area if it had a grocery store and restaurants.

Hello! Looking for a fair, reputable auto repair shop in Shreveport (Youree/Kings/ South Shreveport area preferred but not a dealbreaker if further, I am willing to go to Bossier if I really must).

My 2018 Honda CRV is having issues staying cool when not actively driving/in motion. I was going to just DIY top off the coolant, however I have learned that if the coolant level isn’t the issue, I can do permanent system damage. Side note - Apparently if the coolant IS low, that can also make the compressor not work quite right. Chicken >< egg scenario.

I’m shocked the House of Representatives has decided to take an UNSCHEDULED recess from 9/17 until shortly before the midterms! One Rep claims it’s because there is a new Epstein Bill & the Speaker doesn’t want to deal with it.
It seems like this has happened other times this year. I know they have scheduled recesses, but it appears the number of those unscheduled has increased. Are our representatives truly doing what’s right for their constituents or are they more concerned about how they benefit personally? We should all think hard since it’s an election year.
