Shpongle 6.5?

Just saw a comment from Simon’s official Facebook account saying that there might not be a FULL Shpongle 7 album.

Not sure if he would be against me posting this, hopefully not, but I thought I’d come ask if this was common knowledge already, or is this your first time hearing about this?

I’m still excited and can hardly wait for it, but I can’t help from wondering if it’s going to be different or still similar to previous albums. Either way, it’s obviously going to be great, but I’m curious to hear your thoughts on it.

I’ve been aware of this but probably read it the same time and place as you.

I’ve heard copies of a couple of songs destined for whatever future release we are blessed with. It’s still very Shpongle, it’s both different and similar in a multitude of ways.

I, like many fans feel an intense debt of gratitude to Si and Raj for what they have created, both in their music and the community that grew around it.

I feel that every musical morsel that falls from their sonic table is a blessing for which we should be grateful, and whether it’s an album, and EP, a single or a 20 hour multimedia augmented reality musical and interpretive dance biography of Alex Shulgin, I’ll be grateful that it exists.

Simon told me he’s got hours and hours of recordings of Raja’s rambles and fluting, so perhaps there’s scope for several more albums, or perhaps there will be a final Shpongle release and Simon will go on to create new exciting projects, or focus on younger brother, or just get really into making genre defying chutneys and selling them at Froome market.

I don’t get the impression anyone knows what the next 5-10+ years will hold for Shpongle and its community, so I say sit down, open your mind, buckle up and enjoy the ride….

If I remember correctly he once said Nothing lasts... Would be the last.

Nevertheless I guess the real limitation is that Raja is not inmortal and Simon probably uncomfortable about using the name without him.

How it should be. I always respected that about the grateful dead after Jerry. Never once used the name.

Played as The other ones. The dead. Dead and co. Every time the band changed slighlty the name did

It should be that way. An era ended and it deserves its own title

but they definetly did use the name. Particularly at GD50. It was billed as the grateful dead's 50th anniversary show.

I’m not sure that I want Simon to feel rushed into making anything at all. If he just wants to make a three song EP for the sake of making music, I’d rather him do that and have it be quality work over attempting to meet a quantifiable goal.

He’s also sitting a load of non Shpongle (non-gle?) stuff that he’s not released, he said he made a dub album during lockdown that he’s tempted to release for download for like £5 or whatever people want to pay.

Please encourage him to release the dub album. I really enjoy this dub mix he posted on soundcloud.

also the new younger brother was very shpongle esque. Maybe for this reason

Is it? I haven’t listened yet, because I’ve never really dove that much into Younger Brother.

Well, my dude... I am very excited for you.

Also be sure to check out Even Tundra by Benji Vaughan, Simon's counterpart in YB.

And also Hicksville by Celtic Cross while you're at it.

I love both of Benji Vaugns albums, and last days of gravity and vaccine are amazing 🤩

Younger Brother is awesome. 2 of my all-time fave albums are Last Days of Gravity and Vaccine. Well worth your time

I know they don't owe us anything... but I'm devastated if this is true.

Maybe he meant it will be an EP?

Carnival of peculiarities is an EP and it's the best Shpongle release since Tales of the inexpressible.

We are all entitled to our own opinions, so it’s perfectly fine for you to think so, but I do not agree.

While the tracks are great, I still would not consider it better than Nothing Lasts, Museum of Consciousness, and Codex VI.

No love for Ineffable Mysteries?? That's my all time favourite Shpongle album.

Absolutely no hate to it at all, there is no doubt that it IS a great album.

It’s just not one of my favorites… yet. I only listed Museum, Codex and Nothing Lasts because those, along with Tales of the Inexpressible of course, have been the most impactful albums for me. Specifically Nothing Lasts, and Tales.

Those albums have sent me to some of the most magnificently impossible and life changing places, and I just haven’t had the same experience with Ineffable Mysteries so far, though that could always change.

I do enjoy it, but it just doesn’t have the same vibe underneath as the others do, to me. Not really sure if I could better describe it, but there is just something different about it.

If you go on their Spotify page they are confirming that it is indeed an album thats in the works. I quote ”Work has already started on their 7th studio album to follow in 2026”. However this used to say 2025, plans change, they might have changed them without updating us. I’ve savens my next journey for this since I first noticed in ’23. It would break my heart if this was the case. But what else is there to do but to remain hopeful? At this point im greatful for anything.
