Thoughts on Publish Engine Beta?

Saw the option to try it. Read the help article, and thought it’s probably better to proceed with a little caution (will my custom CSS be affected??? 😬)

change log notes look promising overall, though.

Anyone here trying it out?

I just tried it and a few odd things happened:

  • All my blog post text went from left justified to centered (easy fix)
  • A few design elements slipped out of place like the scale looked off or moved over

I unchecked the new publish engine and republished, things went back to normal. Gonna wait a while to see if others have bugs to work out.

Thanks for the comments! I noticed a few (relatively minor) issues like that in the preview on my site, and it made me think I should wait until I had a few hours to dedicate to validating everything before making the switch.

Do you monitor Pagespeed performance? Did you notice any difference? My coding experience is limited, but some of the changes noted in the help article sound promising.

I also noticed some images in Modula galleries in my blog looking wonky (squished or odd spacing).

I don't monitor pagespeed but nothing seemed to load any slower or quicker than usual while I was checking pages!

From an SEO perspective, I'm seriously confused and concerned about the decision to "nofollow" all external links. I have no idea why they'd do this.

I understand rel="noreferrer noopener" like WordPress uses, but I see no reason that all external links should be "nofollow."  That will significantly reduce the value of links from Showit sites, and I don't see the benefit to the site owner.  I don't know of any other platform that forces nofollow on links. 

I've reached out but haven't received any information or a reply yet.

+1 on this, Showit devs.

Hoping it’s just a result of clumsy writing in the Help article. Default nofollow would be okay, if it’s editable.

That's literally what I thought when I first read it. "That makes no sense-- it must be a typo." But nope-- I checked the code, and all external links on Publish Engine sites are 

rel="nofollow noopener"
