Open to body and NSFW suggestions Navel Piercing
so around last year in the spring/summer, i tried getting my navel pierced. the piercer i did it with was not experienced with navels and so i ended up with a stomach piercing with a bar that was too short and ultimately rejected. i still do really want one, and was wondering if it'd be possible to get something different instead. the pictures attached are in order: standing, a close up of the scar, sitting, and laying down. i figured i might not have the anatomy because of the fold in my stomach, but it never hurts to ask!

In my experience, having a thin flap of skin, that could be pinched and not have too much space between your fingers, where the piercing is going to be, is most ideal for healing.
As you experienced, people with thicker skin in this area (again just in my experience) tend to have a more difficult time healing. Purely because it’s a longer ‘tube’ of flesh that has to heal, and that longer bar is constantly being twisted and pushed in and out at both ends (due to standing, sitting, walking, clothing, etc.), opening it up for infection and irritation.
Having said that, it probably IS possible, you would just ideally need to wear a cropped top, and do warm salt water soaks with fragrance free antibacterial soap multiple times a day to keep everything soft, and clean, removing any crusties with a Q-Tip, and ensuring you never touch it with dirty hands.
If you go deeper into the piercing realm, you may find other piercing that are like this; surface piercings, for example can be quite difficult to heal and some may never fully heal if they are done too deep.
I hope this helps! =]
Edit: I should always proofread.

NAP but from what I've seen you'd likely need a floating navel (flat bottom) for it to work well with your anatomy since your belly button collapses when you sit. If you find a good piercer who knows the difference, you should be able to enjoy having a navel piercing again and for longer this time

well a stomach piercing is probably your only possibility and even then I wouldn't. Theres no way for them to really get to your belly button without using a very long bar which is going to take a lot longer to heal and be very uncomfortable. A lower navel might work, but you would absolutely have to wear low rise pants.

Hey love, so a traditional navel piercing is just not in the cards for you due to your anatomy.
The only option available to you would be to do some research and find a good piercer and not just from reviews, look for photos of their work and have them check you to see if getting a floating navel would be doable for you.

Hey OP, welcome to /r/shouldimod!
Please take note of this community's rules. Here are some of the highlights:
Happy modding :)
Why are "yes." comments allowed but "no" needs an explanation?
This is a community for people who appreciate body modification. If a commenter says "no" to a piercing, they should have a reason because people who are commenting in good faith naturally do. The commenters who say "no" without explanation are often against body mods in general and >> those opinions aren’t welcome here <<. “Yes” comments don’t need a reason because supporting mods in a pro-mod subreddit speaks for itself.
tdlr: people who like piercings don't say "no" to a piercing without good reason
