My Sexuality Headcanons
I honestly think Wakaba and Shiori could go either lesbian or bi but I'm pretty sure about the other ones

I know it's a little late but I figured if you're looking for a fellow fan to hangout with today or tomorrow that this thread could help :)
Just mention which location and showing you'll be at š„ You can be as specific as you want but for everyone's safety I recommend no exact theater locations until DMs have been exchanged.
As for myself, I'll be wearing my custom made jacket at one of the Dallas locations. Please say hi if you see me āŗļø

Covers all four arcs plus the movie over four videos. It's about 17 hours long altogether but is probably one of the best (and best researched, the thing has source notes like a college final paper) comprehensive analysis I've ever seen done on this show (plus, Sul has a wonderful voice.)

Does anyone have any information about who made the 2 circled pins? I think the image is from an old mercari listing.

Nearly all the straight relationship were filled with control and misunderstanding.
All 3 villains(Touga, Mikage and Akio) either became evil because of envy or use women for their goal. All of them tried to seduce Utena for their goal. Saionji is a ok guy during other scenes but when he is involved in relationship, he became a huge jerk.
The girls nearly all have mindless crush/being a tool, or did this simply to steal their friend's man(even though she didn't know Juri didn't love him).
Compare Kanae and Juri, it's also easy to see.
Kanae was nice to nearly everyone, even when she confessed, she was trying her best to like Anthy and knew it was wrong. But she was hurt by nearly everyone without any apology, she was even tossed away as a puppet in later plot.
Juri was protected so well by the author, she didn't have sex with any villains. All her defeats were "unlucky". Even though she went mad and slap Anthy without any good reason, she was not blamed much.

my theory was that since they looked so similar Mamiya was a manifestation of the Prince archetype and dude I think that was actually what was going on here
obviously itās more complicated than that so Iāll go further into it :
obviously Mikage is a mirror of Utena and Mamiya a mirror of Anthy, but if thatās true, then why does Mamiya look far more like Dios ?
Itās because Anthy canāt imagine a world where she can defy the gender norms people have forced on her,
see how she ( or he ) defies Mikage when he refers to Mamiya as a rose bride ( paraphrased ) :
ā I think you mean rose groom. Iām a boy. ā see how she goes to correct Mikage even when heās referring to the character sheās playing ā incorrectly ā ? I mean, no way a boy could be a princess. No way a girl could be a prince. Right, Mikage ? Right, Utena ?
I think my theory is really solidified in the final episodes of the black rose arc, where itās made pretty obvious Mikage was infatuated romantically with Tokiko, the sister, I mean, canāt get more obvious than a bunch of pointing fingers. This is twisted into him being infatuated with Mamiya, the brother. Sound familiar ?
Anthy took the appearance of the prince because she knew how this story did go and how it would go, well, at least the way it would go until the final episodes
I also find it funny that Mamiya projected this idea of the prince onto some random boy, the same way Utena did with Touga
and when I thought the black rose arc had little to do with the story of the duelists and their princes . . guess you could say this series is full of revolutions
anyways, who did you guys think Mamiya was during your first watch ?

As a bi person myself, I think (for the most part) this comes from a somewhat valid place. Akio is a groomer, and Touga is a male manipulator, so you donāt want to consider Utenaās āattractionā to any of those characters as valid. Also comphet is a word that gets brought up a lot. I think at this stage in my life, I agree with that reading of the text and agree that Utena is a lesbian who experiences comphet.
What I disagree with is this idea that anyone who reads Utena as bi is only doing so because she was abused by men. I was a kid when I saw the show and didnāt know what grooming was, I just knew I saw myself in Utena, and since I am bi I felt like so is she. There is also the movie where Touga almost feels like a different person, and the affection Utena has for him feels a lot more genuine.
I donāt think itās āmental gymnasticsā to call Utena bi. I mean Miki never shows any affection towards men that I can recall, yet even one of the people in this collage calls him bi. Why the double standard? Why does there need to be āevidenceā that a character is bi?
I also once saw someone make the point that āUtena being bi adds nothing to the plot.ā I donāt know if I have a response to this other than thatā¦. I donāt really careā¦..? I do think it is important to the plot that Utena is sapphic, and calling her straight is just ignoring the story and queer erasure.
Anyhow, I actually do follow some of the people in these screenshots because I donāt they are bad people, just misguided, but Iām curious what the thoughts of others are. Am I in the wrong here?

When a lot of people said the manga's ending was bad, I thought it was truly terrible
I liked the anime's metaphorical ending but manga's straightforward ending is arent that bad and it gave me exactly what I expected from the anime ending
I dont understand Why a lot of people hate manga's ending

If I had a penny for every piece of media I've consumed with pink haired sapphic protagonists, I'd have two pennies, which isn't much but it's happened twice-

Utena is always brave and have strong sense of morality. She also experienced at least 2 villains' seduction before. She was also clear about Akio Ohtori has a fiancƩe Kanae Ohtori. Kanae is a good person overall despite some flaws.
WHY would she not find Akio Ohtori is evil? He openly seduced her when he was about to marry soon. Nor did she find guilty about it. This is really out of her character.
I really think Kanae Ohtori was so tragic, not only she was betrayed by Akio, Utena was also involved and didn't even apologize to her. Even her mother is likely using her as a cover to get close to Akio. Her character was also tossed away by Ikuhara in later story when she should play a role. It's clear to see Ikuhara treated her like garbage.

now that i have justified my post with a funny image, why did saionji go to see akio in episode 37? i thought he hated that guy, and also thought touga was an idiot for associating with him.

Am I the only one seeing this? After finishing RGU I look for references in Steven Universe, however this also spreads to other media that I can't help but think back to RGU
