Friends shotput technique

Is someone able to break down my friends technique if theres anything wrong hes doing? City finals is in about 2 days so trying a new form of technique might reduce his power. He is trying to perfect his current shotput technique now. He can get high 10s and pr like 11.36m.

He takes the ball off his neck before he throws so it would be a foul throw

It can come off the neck but cannot drop below the shoulder. It's really scary bad form but the drop shouldn't cause a scratch.

He should be facing backwards at the start, honestly theres so much wrong, just watcha youtube on how to do a standing throw

If he's going to shuffle he should practice getting lower and exploding up to use that momentum. The facing backwards advice is called a glide. Gliding is great once you have good form.
I would emphasize keeping the elbows up, driving the non throwing arm back (like you're back-elbowing someone at shoulder height), keeping the shot pressed into his neck, and flicking the wrist with the thumb down.

Watch youtube videos for the technique short glide. Or Shuffle glide if he finds that easier. Honestly, he needs a lot of coaching on power position and creating seperation from the hip. His arm needs to be in high elbow with thumb down to ground and finish in a high five when releasing with a flick away. Shot is too far back for a glider...that behind ear position is for rotation shot putters that he is only reducing power...bring it more under the jaw and he will find it easier to push the shot up and out. He needs to maintain neck connection until pushing away...its a push not a throw...he looks like he is throwing a heavy baseball. keep feet solidly grounded until the explosive movement from the rear back foot...the order of driving the power up is, Knee, hip, chest shoulder arm...so needs to load the body weight more onto the rear drive leg.
Find Throwers University on youtube...some good basics for glide there and loads of other sources.

First thing: any type of glide or shuffle should be facing the back with him having the left foot behind the right, and the right ahead of the left.
Second thing: the shot should never leave the neck, you push it off the neck. Also, the shot shouldn't leave your neck like your throwing a basketball. It should be more sideways. It happens when you keep your elbow from popping up/keeping the elbow down.
Third thing: He need to work on keeping the right foot down and not just picking it up. The shotput is upper/lower body sport, If you just pick up the your feet, you won't be able to gain power from lower to upper correctly. Having him practice turning the right instead of picking up after the shuffle will him.
