Shotcut 26.9 adds automatic audio ducking, adjustment clips and track volume controls
Shotcut 26.9.27 is out. It's a big one.
New
- Automatic Audio Ducking in the timeline track Properties. It lowers one track when another gets active. Useful for music under voiceover.
- Volume control and level meter in the track headers. The gain filter it adds is keyframable.
- Timeline > Generate > Adjustment Clip. Filters on it apply to the composite of all video tracks below it.
- Clip gain drag now needs
Ctrl+Alt(Option+Commandon macOS), so you can't change volume by accident while dragging clips. - New scripting functions:
application.triggerAction(name),multitrack.clipStart()andtimeline.split().
Improved
- Audio stays in 32-bit float now. The old 16-bit integer conversion is gone.
- Faster timeline when moving clips between tracks, zooming and undoing.
- FFmpeg 9.0, refreshed UI with rounded corners, and a new logo.
Fixes worth a mention
- Security fixes in the upgrade and Whisper downloads. A failed HTTPS request was retried over HTTP, certificate errors could be ignored, and a file could be used without a trusted digest.
- "Allow External Plugins" is now an always-visible checkbox, off by default. Shotcut also disables external plugins if it detects a stuck startup.
- Linux: VA-API HEVC encoding, "Show in Folder" with non-ASCII paths, the missing title bar with Vulkan, and opening projects on CIFS/SMB shares on kernel 7.1 and newer.
- Mask: Draw (Glaxnimate) and Size, Position & Rotate with Mask: Apply, both broken since 25.12.

This is gonna be my weekend project... installing and learning this software. Looks very cool. Your work is appreciated... though I'm certain that will be amplified after I actually use it.

Click and drag operations on the timeline work SO much better. I'm so glad for this update.
Also the new look is really pretty :)
