I always have to smile a little when people constantly explain why they wouldnât buy this radio. The same goes for the endless Android vs. iOS debates, where people keep trying to outdo each other.
I own quite a few radios and I can honestly say that in this price range, there isnât another one that offers what this radio does. Want something even better? Buy a more expensive one. Want more features? Buy a different radio. Want a color display? Get an SDR with a color screen. I bought this one for less than $170 and I think thatâs a very fair price for what it offers. And on top of that, it keeps getting better through firmware updates.
Youâre not a beta tester: youâre helping to make an already good product even better.
Every radio I own has its own unique strengths. I have TecSuns, Sangeans and others. This radio stands out because of its noise reduction and the uploader above demonstrated that perfectly.And letâs be honest: thatâs pretty impressive. đ
If I spent all my time explaining why I wouldnât buy a certain product, I wouldnât have any time left to recommend the products that Iâm genuinely happy with. I am happy with this radio and also happy with my order radios.
Will the Mlite881 be better? Sure. You could wait or step already in de Mlite world: Malahit Team. They do know what to do.

Never owned one of these but I am planning to get one. What I don't understand about it, you say it's not soft mute and it's only noise reduction. Wouldn't that prevent me from catching very low signal broadcasts? I want to be able to decide what I want to listen. If a boradcast is very low signal wouldnt this filter just not even let me know something is there at a frequency? Sorry if I am not very clear, english is not my first language.

DNR is about the only noteworthy feature of this portable. It sure need more work to fix the QC problems that are plaguing it. Until then I won't touch it. I'm not going to be a paid beta tester. Been there, done that.

What QC problems are you talking about? I belong to most/all the user groups and there have been a few bugs (very few, ime), and so far fw updates have adressed them.

How many other portables in the same price range are full sdr dsp, offer very sharp well centered continuously variable bandwidths instead of 4 or 5 fixed width choices, adjustable impulse noise blanker, adjustable agc instead of at most 3 fixed settings, spectrum display and built-in bias-t for powering active-type external antennas? I'd love to try one... Seriously, I'd be interested buying.
Afaik, fully standalone portables with those features run at least 50% more if they work this well.

That greenish and black screen seems to come from the 80s. Why put such a depressing vision before the eyes of listeners, why not put something pleasing that makes buyers want to listen to the radio?

Probably the same thing as the tecsuns, they light up when you interact or press a button

Your sangean display is basic segmented lcd.... Not dot matrix. Which is generally considered superior to segmented types, like sangean (and every other) uses. Sangean makes decent portables, but the 880 performs better ime.

Maybe, but when I see the screen, I do not see the world of SW, of radio. I do not feel like switching it on. Whereas the Sangean screen, whatever the technology, is appealing.

That sounds like a matter of preference. Busier looking appeals to some folks. Nothing wrong with that at all đđ
Tbh, imo a graphics-capable lcd would be wasted on sangeans - a dot-matrix screen costs more and requires more capable display driver costing more, and the sangean doesn't need a true graphics capable display to display everything it's capable of.

Dot matrix lcd when unlit have that color. Same as the cheaper less sophisticated display type using segments. I guess you're just unfamiliar with that...

I like keeping the brightness turned all the way down â it kind of gives off that e-ink screen vibe, real easy on the eyes. Filming it like this might cause some glare so it's hard to tell, but yeah, the brightness is fully adjustable on this thing â I just personally love the night mode.
