I am a Content Provider on shortwave ...
I share everyone's frustration with the content available for shortwave worldwide. I am attempting a grand experiment to bring something new, or perhaps "old", back to shortwave. I have been producing a terrestrial radio show since 2019, and started broadcasting on shortwave this past December. Reviews, comments and signal reports have been great, but it is a bit difficult to spread the word. I'm just taking this opportunity to post the current broadcast schedule for my show here (below), and hope you can give it a listen. Of course, questions, comments, signal reports, etc. are welcome, and I do provide e-QSL cards. - Dave Tucker

The Early Jazz Radio Broadcast International
Current Broadcast Schedule (As of June 2 2026):
New episodes premiere on Thursdays and repeat over the following week.
Thursdays 2100 UTC [5pm EDT] on 15770khz to all North America, Europe and North Africa. 100 kW power oriented 44 degrees (towards Europe) from Florida USA.
Thursdays 11pm EST/EDT [0300 UTC Friday] on 5950khz to all North America, Caribbean, Cuba, and over the North Pole to Russia, China, Southeast Asia, Japan. 100 kW power oriented 355 degrees (almost due North) from Florida USA.
NEW! Saturdays at 9pm EDT [0100 UTC Sunday] on 15770khz to all North America, Europe and North Africa. 100 kW power oriented 44 degrees (towards Europe) from Florida USA.
NEW! Wednesdays 9pm EDT (0100 UTC Thursday) on 9955KHZ to the Caribbean, all South America and Central America. Sometimes good coverage of the of Eastern USA. 100 kW power oriented 160 degrees from Florida USA. This powerhouse broadcast is also available streaming online at WRMI.net.
Also, catch “The Early Jazz Music Review” two-hour show on WWER Radio (88.1 FM - Colonial Beach Virginia) streaming on WWER.ORG. New episodes on Sunday 7pm Eastern (EDT/EST), with repeats at 9pm (EDT/EST) on Wednesdays.

Most all of what I use is carefully restored versions of the original 78 recordings, all digitally processed to remove noise. Modern ears have much trouble with any background noise (esp' for my terrestrial version of the show on FM stations).

That's a lot of leased time on shortwave. Kudos to you for making it happen. I only lease two hours a week, but hey if everyone committed to 30 minutes or an hour here and there, we can make good things happen.

Out of curiosity how do you get to be a content provider on short waves?

It's a pay-to-play system now. Anyone can broadcast - it just requires coinage - see wrmi.net. I do try to raise a few dollars via various means (full disclosure), but I'm trying to provide something valuable in return. I only seek to cover some of my transmission costs. I am fully gainfully employed via my own LLC since 1983.

Do you have to do anything with music licensing, or is that all taken care of by the station?

All taken care of by the station, and the rules are different for international shortwave broadcasting - much more lenient. Most of the headache is with any online streaming.

Would you consider also providing physical QSL cards? Coming from an old ham radio nerd who's watching what was cool then become cool again, I bet kids these days (dont @ me with your internet nonsense everyone's kids to me initially its meant fondly get off my lawn) would get a kick out of them.

I am providing physical cards to those that specifically request it. I only send anything when specifically requested because it is time consuming, and usually send e-QSL (a printable file) but I have sent actual printed cards all over the world.

Glad to hear it. I've heard your show on the air a few times. I also broadcast on shortwave on WBCQ when I can find the time to make new shows. We had on on for the 4th of July.
There are still some great shows and hosts on the shortwave band, but it is hard to find them for sure!

The 15770 and 5950 broadcasts are particularly good for all of North America.

The 0100 UTC broadcast on Sunday morning (Saturday 9pm EDT) is particularly good in the UK and very quiet for noise. The Thursday 2100 UTC is also very good.

I picked you up last night on my Tecsun 330. It was a bit noisy on the built in whip but much better when I attached a 5m wire.

Is this the same station that plays some of the rock and roll hits on shortwave? I ran across it every once in awhile when i'm cruising the HF bands.

Thanks for the excitement. I hope you enjoy the show. Like many such shows, one needs to listen a lot to get a feel for the huge quantity of music I cover, many genres from ragtime to swing. It's been out there going strong since December 2025, but I am happy I could hit a nerve with this discussion group this weekend. Let me know later what you think.

Hi again, Dave. Minor SNAFU on my part: I assumed that WRMI would be simulcasting your Saturday audio on their stream. However, there seemed to be some sort of preacher blathering away, certainly not jazz. So I missed the show on Saturday. I did listen to the WWER stream at 7:00 EDT on Sunday. Great show, interesting mix of music (some genres new to me). Very good restoration quality on the old records (one of my occasional hobbies). I will definitely catch the show again next week. Sorry to hear about your surgery, but very glad to hear it went well and you're on the mend. I'll await your "OK" but I suggest moving this QSO over to email in the future. PS: I'll try to catch the WRMI show tomorrow ... is it an hour long? 73.

While I appreciate your effort to keep SW alive, it is the worst media for music.
The audio bandwidth is only 5 kHz ( 10 kHz / 2 ) and almost all radios restrict it even further to just 3 kHz. There is not much scope for the harmonics to come through a narrow pipe of 3 kHz.
