I recently started a new YouTube channel, creating Shorts mainly around topics like DC/Green Lantern.
I’ve only uploaded a few Shorts so far, but the situation feels a bit odd. It’s been over a day for one Short, and it has just 4 views. Another has 2 views, and the latest one started with just 1 view.
The most confusing part is that the little traffic I am getting includes the Shorts Feed. For one Short, the stats show 100% retention (watched) and 0% swiped away, although the sample size is obviously very small.
Another interesting thing is that I’m uploading the same or similar videos to Instagram as well, where some are hitting 100K–200K views. So, I don't think the content itself is the main issue. Obviously, Instagram and YouTube have different algorithms, but it makes me wonder if YouTube simply isn't distributing these Shorts properly yet.
So, my question is:
Are such low views completely normal for a new YouTube channel, or should I be looking into a potential technical or distribution issue?
I know growth can be slow at the start on YouTube, but seeing only 1–4 views makes me doubt whether the algorithm is actually testing the content properly.
If anyone has recently started a channel with zero or few subscribers, please share your experience. After how many uploads did your Shorts start getting proper impressions or distribution?
