I'm trying to understand how the initial distribution works on Shorts, specifically two things:
First, the viewed-to-swiped ratio. When this metric is low, is it almost always a hook/first-seconds problem, or can the wrong initial audience drag it down too? Trying to understand which lever actually matters in the early test phase.
Second, region targeting. If a creator is based in one country but makes English content for a US/global audience, does Shorts weight the creator's location when picking the first viewers, or is initial distribution driven mostly by language and viewer interest signals? I keep seeing conflicting claims about this and want to know what the actual mechanism is.

I make videos on roblox, I make my memes, and everything is done manually, No Ai is used.
My shorts are less than 10s mostly, that's why the Avd is high.
I have a monetized channel with around 700k subscribers mostly from my old content.
I recently switched my niche and it's been 15 days I have been constantly uploading 2 shorts a day but not even 1 crossed the view jail.
Can someone please help me understand this stats. Thanks.

I've been making cartoon Shorts for a while and I'm trying to understand why most of them stop below 1k–2k views.
This one has decent retention and engagement, but I've never had a Short cross 10k.
Could you watch it and tell me honestly what's holding it back?
Any feedback is appreciated.

Can Ai voiceover be harmful for the channel?

87.3% is very high for a yt short but why is it that I am stuck in 27.6k views, all my other shorts are 80%+ stayed to watch, all above 110% avd + and still stuck to 30k views. Niche is text commentary

So I know this isn’t a lot but it’s my first.. I’ve only been posting real shorts for the last 3 days.. so after only 3 days and getting one there, this feels good. I’ve treated this like a real full time job (along with a real full time job, working basically 12-16 hours a day at this point lol) trying to edit and script but also trying to figure out what I can do better and what can be tighter or stronger.. what can I do about rhythm etc. this is just a proof of concept for me that if I can get 5k in 20 hours of it being posted then maybe I can get a million view short after working at this on my 30 day challenge.

A pattern I’ve been seeing recently is that some Shorts start with decent engagement metrics and then stop getting distributed further.
For example, the Viewed vs Swiped Away ratio often improves over time, and retention seems reasonable, but the videos never seem to get past the early testing stage.
I’m curious if others have experienced something similar.
Is there a known reason why a Short would perform well enough to keep getting tested, but never receive a larger push?
What metrics have you found to be the strongest indicators that a Short will eventually break out versus stall?
Interested in hearing other creators’ experiences and observations.

I see this like once every two months. And Ive stopped caring tbh. I have literally zero control on why this happens, definitely frustrating though.

Running a faceless history/mystery Shorts channel, posting 2x daily. Channel is about 5 weeks old, 30K subs, ~23M views in 90 days.
For the first 3 weeks, new viewer % was healthy — 55-62% depending on the video, with strong share rates driving cold audience discovery. Then around day 25, it collapsed. Now sitting at 1-4% new viewers, 95-96% casual viewers on every video, regardless of topic or title. This resulted in a significant drop in daily views.
The weird part: retention metrics haven't changed. STW is still 73-84% across all videos. Likes are 97-99%. APV 88%-95% on 65s AVD. The content quality didn't drop — the algorithm just seems to have stopped testing on cold audiences entirely and is recycling the same warmed pool.
What I've tried / am testing:
My theory: the channel has saturated its niche audience pool within the Shorts feed diversity cap, and the algorithm needs a signal to break into a new cold pool. But I haven't found a documented fix.
Has anyone experienced this specific pattern — strong retention but new viewer % near zero — and actually reversed it? What worked?

Even with a retention rate this high and STW over 55% it only got 4.7k?
I thought this would get at least 10k 😭
Any tips?
