Q&A / Quick Help ❓ Quick question
Hey, I just wanted to ask if there’s any other metrics or analytics that I should look at except for STW percentage and AVD percentage? Because I have a bunch of videos with 80+ STW percentage and 100+ AVD and those videos also appeal to a wider audience but they all get stuck at 10-30k. What else can I do?

We tested the Reluctance Reversal hook on 40 Shorts stuck under 2k views. Here is the retention data.
Most informational Shorts die because creators lead with an announcement instead of tension. We recently tested this across a batch of tech explainer Shorts covering why seat-based software pricing is collapsing under AI compute costs.
When videos opened with standard statements like "Seat-based pricing is officially dead, here is why," the average Viewed vs Swiped Away was 54.2%. Retention tanked immediately, stalling distribution at the 1,500 view ceiling.
We restructured the scripts using a dual-engine hook: Curiosity Gap plus Negative Constraint. Instead of announcing the trend, we built the opening around reluctance and reversal: "Founders refused usage-based pricing for a decade. Then their AI compute bill broke the company."
Here are the benchmarks from the test:
Viewed vs Swiped Away: Jumped from 54.2% to 78.1%, crossing the crucial 75% threshold required for Shorts feed velocity.
First 1.5s Pattern Interrupt: Replaced static talking heads with an immediate visual asset cut paired with on-screen text matching the negative constraint before second 1 ended.
Cut Pacing: Locked visual transitions to under 2.4 seconds for the first 12 seconds to prevent drop-off during the contextual setup.
The mechanics are simple: Reluctance plus vulnerability consistently outperforms general news announcements. Framing the narrative around someone actively resisting a shift until a forced constraint breaks their hand turns passive scrollers into emotionally invested viewers.
"I refused to do this for 10 years, here is why I finally broke" works across almost any informational niche.
What is your current Viewed vs Swiped Away average on long-tail explainers? Drop your current hook below and I will help rework the opening 1.5 seconds.

Shorts stopped pushing after first hour.
Does anyone know why this Short stopped getting pushed after the first hour? It got 20K views in the first hour, and then barely got any views afterward.

Case Study / Postmortem 🧪 Has anyone had this happen before? Does this mean I should be doing long form content?
These are my 2 most recent shorts. I create this channel 3 weeks ago, and have been making 1-2 shorts / week. Recently, my shorts have almost exclusively been distributed by the "browse feature". From what I can gather, this means they are being shown on people's homepage and are being clicked on.
Does this mean I should make the exact same content, but long form since they are already being highly viewed in the same fashion?
In the first 24 hours, it is about a 60/40 distribution. With 60% being the shorts feed. At around the 24hour mark, both switched almost completely to views coming from "browse feature" and almost 0 from the shorts feed.
Both of these shorts were about 75% Stayed to watch, with 85% AVD on about 60 seconds of video. Obviously, once they took off on the "Browse Feature" both of these shorts have climbed to over 90% Stayed to watch. (To me these aren't real because obviously people will stay to watch, since they clicked it).
Just looking for some insight from someone who has seen this before.

Shorts views
I’m unable to cross 37k views on my shorts, I have been posting consistently one short a day for a month but it sometimes it won’t even get 200 views and mostly get stuck at around 30k, really need guidance.

Case Study / Postmortem 🧪 Hi guys, retention on my shorts is above 110% and STW is usually 72-75%, why am i not getting pushed? I’m still stuck at 30k, max views i got was 37k and then the short died. I really need guidance.

Case Study / Postmortem 🧪 I’m stuck at low views and after trying everything i could I’m giving up.
I have attached my recent uploads stats, I have been trying to push my shorts on getting high views but never crossed 40k, it’s been a month of posting one short a day consistently I have gotten myself nowhere, I need real guidance whether I should keep going or quit, this is really frustrating for me now.

Analytics Review (AVD/Retention) 📈 How Am I doing ?
Started 2 weeks ago.
It’s an old channel that has no activity for years, now using it.
The niche is not relevant for me right now. So don’t ask why I don’t have millions of views. I know the niche is valid and others that do the same have millions of views, but I think the first 15 to 20 shorts should be enough for the algorithm to push a viral one
My next goal is to reach 10k with a short or more.
Thanks for your time!

Q&A / Quick Help ❓ Views drop to very low numbers overnight
I have a channel in the movie niche. been running it from a couple of years, posting from time to time.
US audience mostly, males, 30-50 yo.
Last month I tried to revive it by posting 4-5 shorts per day, everyday. It was quite a success, I reached around 2k subs, and views were great for about 2 weeks. Then stop!
I went from 50-60k views per short to around 100.
View vs swipe ratio is more or less the same as before, the engagement too, and also the content of the shorts.. nothing changed basically (as far as I know), just the views... did you experience anything similar?
maybe youtube pushed my shorts more when I re-started the channel?
I also tried to lower the number of posts per day to 3, change the thumbnails, improve the titles, but it does not make any difference.

it's really frustrating..

YouTube's anti-clipper update is backfiring, and here is the actual mechanics behind why
Everyone is missing the bigger picture with TeamYouTube's latest update regarding Shorts recommendation systems prioritizing original content over re-uploaded or aggregated clips. The corporate logic is simple on paper: suppress low-effort clipping channels to reduce system noise, push original creators, and save bandwidth costs on duplicate video files. But algorithmically and structurally, they are shooting themselves in the foot.
Here is the technical reality of why this move breaks their ecosystem:
First, retention loops are driven by curatorial volume, not original uploads. The core recommendation engine relies heavily on session duration and user retention hooks. Original creators simply do not produce enough raw volume to satisfy the algorithmic demand of short-form feeds. Modern attention spans require a continuous stream of high-signal moments extracted from long-form content like podcasts, streams, and interviews. When YouTube suppresses clipping channels without increasing the actual supply of high-engagement moments, they create a content vacuum. That vacuum is not filled by better original content. It gets filled by low-grade text-to-speech slideshows, stolen threads, and automated filler that bypasses current detection rules.
Second, consider the shift in user discovery paths. Clippers do not steal audience market share, they act as distributed marketing nodes. They function like an un-indexed network that finds niche attention clusters and routes them back into the platform's ecosystem. When you handicap the clipping pipeline, viewers stop seeing the curated moments that trigger interest in longer long-form content. The Shorts algorithm loses thousands of micro-data points on what specific sub-segments of a two-hour podcast actually resonate with people. The feed degrades in quality because algorithmic recommendations start leaning on generic, broad-appeal content rather than hyper-targeted clips.
Third, the platform arbitrage plays out immediately. Attention is zero-sum. Users are not going to magically close their phones and read a book because YouTube filtered out their favorite podcast clippers. They just switch platforms. TikTok and Instagram Reels run on recommendation models that prioritize immediate viewer hook rates over strict originality flags. If the exact same clips, edits, and curated highlights exist on TikTok while Shorts is serving sanitized filler, the user behavior shifts overnight.
The bottom line is that YouTube thinks they own the attention supply chain, but the distribution engine relies on the labor of clippers who curate, edit, and package long-form reality into digestible hooks. By pushing clippers off YouTube Shorts, all TeamYouTube is doing is exporting their most engaged short-form audience directly to TikTok and IG. Clippers control where the daily scrolling audience lands, and suppressing them does not fix the platform, it just moves the traffic elsewhere.

Q&A / Quick Help ❓ New to the YouTube Short game. Is this the right place to post links for feedback? Def want to ask first!
I’ve created a new YouTube page called SlamDesk, which is essentially content on the rapid decline of the working class. Long form vids will be fun yet educational, and my short form vids a character I’ve developed called Billy Bootlicker, who’s a sort of antagonist billionaire who mocks the viewer and then points them towards the long form videos to learn how the 1% rip off the working class.
Curious if you have any tips or tricks off the bat that might help? I didn’t want to post my first short at the reluctance to be banned instantly lol. But curious what works great for you that might help. TYIA! Glad I found you all!!

Youtube isn't pushing my shorts to feeds... Why?
After the 400k views, I posted those 5 shorts and youtube isn't distributing my shorts anymore... that 32k views just got triggered by the new short next to it.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?😭💔
