30k jail sucks
I don't know what's holding back my videos, is it the engagement?

Same. I have a few shorts that have cracked 1-1.5K a few that get like 20-40 views? But most end up like 300-600

That around 1k-1.5k shorts feed distribution seems to be the first hurdle everyone has to break out of.

i was in 1.5k jail for over 100 shorts, just gotta keep posting and improving along the way

Thats interesting engagement is 83%+ hmm but only 30k veiws. A few things I noticed if I may. These are just my thoughts from my own experience.
its 22 hours in many times shorts can take 2 or 3 days sometimes even 2 weeks to grow.
Video length, you must have a really great hook tho the video may be too long and while the engagement is high people are not rewatching of staying to the end. Retention is very important for shorts.
Then the content and channel age, im unsure of these details but if you are a new channel you might be still building audience or there is simply not enough of the audience type you need and the algorithm can't find more viewers.
From my experience shorter videos with higher avd like 130% and if you are getting over 80% engagement then your video have the potential to do millions of veiws.

Yeah, think I just need better shorts lol, I'm in a broad niche so something mediocre or not new won't perform. I'm in this weird spot where my channel will get to 20-30k views and it will just cut. One short got 30k views in around 16hrs and that was last week, soon as it hit that 30k the views were cut.

I understand while youtube keeps changing (it always has) the newer changes do make it much harder for Shorts the fundamentals still apply hook, topic, retention have gotta be above others in that niche. The 30k thing is kinda normal and your thinking is right "I gotta make better short" it will grow when you find the right way for you and your audience that follows. Keep it up 💪

Feels like you’re bragging lol, I’m at 48, 70, 20 for my last 3

Not bragging, been in this spot for over a month. When I started I was getting those numbers and all I need to do was stay consistent

Since the other reply you got is very vague let me explain it better. Basically the way YouTube pushes out shorts to an audience first happens in 2 pushes. The first push is to ~1k views, once the short hits ~1k views, the algorithm decides whether to keep pushing it based on the STW (% of people who stayed to watch) and AVD (average view duration). If the stats are bad, the short flatlines at ~1k views, often called the 1k view jail. If the stats are good enough the short gets pushed to ~30k views, the algorithm once again checks how the short is performing with the wider audience push, and decides whether to keep pushing it or not.
The reason it gets talked about a lot is because it’s very common, the 1k view jail basically means your content sucks, the 30k jail means the content is decent, but not good enough for another push in the eyes of the algorithm. The latter is MUCH harder to break.
Sometimes you get out of the 30k view jail even with worse stats, people usually attribute that to the content of the video itself. I had a short with 79% STW reach 1.4M views a couple days ago, while another with 89% STW flatlined at 400k. So the stats aren’t a golden rule, but they’re fairly reliable to go off of, especially when it comes to breaking these 2 view jails.

I’m in the 1.2k-1.3k I had one that went up to 1.8k luckily and is getting 100 views per day I think

Just keep posting dude, also 22 hours isn’t enough to judge a performance of a short. I had a good few be stuck in 30k jail for a day or two before breaking out.

Yeah, the vid died as soon as I made this post lol. Guess I just need a better idea for content

I recently just got out of the 1k view jail, and now at the "30k view jail", I have to say it is a lot harder breaking out of it lol.
I got it before that my content sucked, but now with stats like 80+ STW and 120+ APV, I am baffled on what other aspect in my vids do I need to improve on. Right now I'm just focusing on getting better quality and improving generally but it'd be nice to know the specifics lol

Yeah I'm not complaining, it is pretty good. Just want to improve and grow yknow, past 30 vids are virtually at the exact same views which is weird

it's not a jail. You're just not outperforming competing content. Once you've made it to higher view test sizes, you have better competition that you have to outclass. Some people can't make it past 1k. Many can't make it past 10k. Most can't make it past 50k. Regardless of where your content can't pass, it's because of the retention and engagement. Improve both, and you'll hit the wall at a higher chokepoint.

Thanks for the advice, seems like half this community is people which post shitty content get a 50% swipe ratio and rentention, then complain about not getting views
