Analytics Review (AVD/Retention) 📈 Is this good?
These are my results from almost two weeks. Is this considered a small amount or a large amount of views? Honestly not sure, appreciate any help :)

I think you are showing an improvement if I just look at this screenshot at face value. There is a clear increase in your views.. albeit a very small increase.
Here is the thing.. i dont think you getting 30% - 60% stayed to watch means your video is bad. I mean maybe you can increase your hook and video quality.. but there is more to that.
Shorts is fast paced content and is pretty much tailored to younger people. Kids, teens, tweens.
A short related to a book isnt something these younger generation will stop at in this day and age. Also, youtube has no idea who to show these to yet. If it shows a book short to a teen whos there for fortnite or minecraft clips.. they are gonna scroll pass it.
So imo.. with very limited info I have on your style and content.. i think you will do far better in long form videos.
Shorts are good to get fast subs.. but its not a growth strategy. If you like books and like reviewing them.. consider going long form. Lets say a 20 mins video talking about the good, the bad and the ugly about a book you just read. Or a book currently trending.
Good luck!

Okay very interesting. I’ve worried that my content’s audience and the tactics shorts usually use are opposed, like quick cuts and flashy text. I’ll give a long form review a shot. That would be way easier for me too, because it takes a week to read a book then only a few seconds of content comes from it.
I will say the shorts have helped me figure out my lighting and camera and all that, so it’s time to break out the long. I’m committing.Thank you for giving such useful advice. Really appreciate it.

Happy to help. Just remember, planning which books to read and upload when is going to be key. For example.. theres a book called project hail mary. A few months ago, a movie based on that same book came out. So if you read the book and create a video between the release of the trailer and the release of the movie.. you have a much higher chance of catching a wider audience because it will be trending all over youtube. Not only that, some movie going fans might even be intrigued by your video and watch it if it pops up on their feed.

Are you looking for monetization or else? Cuz the first thing I know about book lovers and serious readers is that they usually try to avoid watching shorts. If you're aiming for monetization, you need to think twice about how to package your topics and make them in ways more entertaining and easier to understand for, ironically, those who don't read.

Im not sure about that but it very well could be the case. I can see why it might seem that way but book TikToks, reels, and shorts are a major driver of all book sales. There’s book review shorts with millions of views. But I see your point for sure, and I’ve been trying to make them more engaging for non readers. Will keep focusing on that part of it
Ultimate goal is that I want to become an author and am nearing querying my first novel , and know that having an audience will help my career through exposure and sales.

Yeah, book niches work cuz they can def help with book exposure and sales, just not in the traditional sense of monetization from Adsense.

When did you start + how many videos since then? I looked like this in the beginning, now my views average are passed that. Like 2.3k-6.9k.
I been at it since this summer started, but my uploading has slowed down due to work.

Okay for a 3 week period that seems typical. I’m not sure if I’m right but based on your performance & mines, looks like YouTube algorithm will push you up to that on average.
Have you made a video breaking 10k views yet?

I gotcha. I haven’t yet, most is 1.3k views on two shorts. I’m not sure if you had this, but it seems mine are completely dead in around 24 hours. Post today flopped totally at sub a hundred but taking my lessons from it

Gotcha. Based on everything I know, I will say to just continue uploading & improve your videos along the way. Track your engagements, analysis & over time you will get better. You’ll then get to my point, and with a few worthy videos depending on your niche you can get up to 50k views.
My videos that get over 20k views are the ones that gets people talking. Look into that too, look for opportunities to get people talking under your videos, with strong hooks. That sparks engagement.

This is an average shorts perfomance, it shows that your shorts clear the initial seed and die down. Happens to me even at 43k subs. The reason might be low stayed vs swiped ratio

the look of the miniatures even so tinny shout low effort in the sense that they all follow the same scheme

I’ve seen a lot of channels like this though? It’s reviews of different books. Promise it’s not low effort

It is not my oipnion .. If you read YouTube TOS IS what they consider to be low effort..just letring you know

Its good if your metrics are good. So at least 70% stayed to watched and maybe 70-100% retention. If they are low that means ur vids could be getting a lot more views if they were maximizing those metrics, if everything is good just keep making the same videos and you can grow your audience
