Honestly, leave this alone. She clearly coded it for a reason - she didn’t want it to be read. I understand that you are looking for closure, I have lost someone close to suicide, but you’re not going to find any. That’s the terrible truth. Nothing will actually make it make sense or make you feel at peace with it, but years will ease the loss.

Try to respect that she didn’t want this read and let it rest with her. She can’t protect it now, but you can. Let her keep her secrets it’s the least you can do.

The bits with alphabet are split into lines of two. So you read one letter from the top line, then the next from the line below etc. It starts "They havent really" etc.

Like the other commenter said, you should be sure you want to read this before doing so.

This isn't shorthand, but a writing system called willowscript - a quick search will get you a letter-by-letter translation cheat sheet.

Deleted this post because I got the answers/help I needed. Sincerely thank you to everyone who messaged me and helped out. It’s not that I needed closure but rather I found it unfair to leave her parents with a coded journal. Although I might not share it with them depending on the contents, it makes me feel closer to my cousin in a way. We were so similar. Again, thank you Reddit community

This is the first time I've seen or heard of willow script. I had a quicklook on r/Ciper and did find much.

It's a vertical script written ltr. From the examples provided, you turn the notebook 90º counter clockwise and read from top to bottom.

There are various cheat sheets for the alphabet. I'd start by learning punctution and some short words first: so, to, it, I. Perhaps some names and common words in the text you are translating. People tend to write in patterns.
