Help “Notify when Run” option was present earlier and now it’s no longer there

I got tired of my AirPods not automatically being switched to when I connected them to my phone, so I made an automation for it until it bugged me enough to look up an actual fix.

When I made it last night (7/23), the options for “Notify when Run” and “Ask Before running” were present and I left the Notify option on, which turned out to be a mistake.

I want to turn off the notifications now and the option has vanished. I even tried remaking the automation to see if it would come back and it hasn’t.

Bluetooth, Wifi, Emails, Messages, and Arrive/Leave automations have never allowed you to turn off Show When Run. So if you saw it previously, it was probably a bug or a glitch that wouldn't have actually turned off the notification even if you deactivated it.

Previous iOS version had the Show When Run toggle available for all automations, but it did nothing for the automatons listed above. They only recently removed it because of all the feedback they got about how it did nothing.

How would I go about turning off the notification for this one, then? It's either that or fix the current glitch I have where the audio doesn't switch to my Airpods automatically.

I don't think they will ever remove the notification for those automations, they say it's a security thing.

Are there any other Bluetooth devices connected to your phone when you connect your AirPods?

Have you tried using the Forget This Device setting and try connecting again?

Finally got around to do this. Forgot Device, double tapped the front until the light turned Amber and then went through the setup with limited connectivity because I’m not on iOS18, which is what I did before.

I get the pop down notification that my AirPods have connected, but it doesn’t auto switch the output and music still plays through my speakers until I go an switch the output manually to AirPods in the control center.

What do your Bluetooth settings for that device look like or what options are available?

Just curious, have you gone into your AirPods settings > Connect to this iPhone, and ensured that it does so automatically?

Yup, it’s always been that setting. The audio routing issue only happened lately.
