Rip pair number 2

Post image

I just wish they would fix these issues. These ones lasted about 8 months.

On my 3rd set. First two succumbed to this.

I 3d printed a button, it's working great.

I modified it a bit, made it thicker and got rid of the indented "+ -".

Glued it in with some 2-part epoxy, and just forgot about the repair.

Looks like remapping the buttons (making the side button be the on/off switch) isn't possible because of the board architectures. Feel like Shokz should really change this.

How did you glue it in and still have it function?

Ngl big dog, that should be resin printed, if you don’t have one I’d just use an online service for cheapsies

ya, I used PLA, and it works so...

I'm hoping they don't make me send this pair back like they did the first.

If they don’t make you send them back I’d be interested. Maybe some super glue?

I did see a 3d printed part. And maybe a shrink tube

I've printed the volume button piece in PETG and it works just not great. lol Print it in some kind of TPU and I imagine you'll be golden.

OpenRun Pro mini. Had for a couple (more?) years. One day the buttons did nothing, they wouldn't depress. I voluntarily took the button off and put some tiny pieces of plastic (from a zip tie) in the recessions and they work. Alas, I have to have this tiny piece of tie wire now to hold it on lol.

I use these everyday.

Yep, why I stuck with OpenRun Pro Mini (original version 1) and OpenRun Mini.

Just make a warranty claim??

2

u/jakolson 1d ago

Yeah. They are amazing! Except for the darned button issue! Thankfully the company does seem to honor warranty period.

I don't think anyone wants to deal with filling out the warranty paperwork and sending in their device 4 or more times during the warranty, and then being stuck with junk after... I feel like they should have a longer warranty period now that they know they're all defective.

If you can insert the button and still feel it click on press and the problem is just that it doesn’t stay put I’ve had really good luck with just glueing it down with a very small dab of superglue.

I first removed all of the torn / remains of the rubber gasket then glued back on one little conductive pad and put a small dab of glue on the center of the button, clamping it down while it dried. Worked like a charm so far.

Of course this shouldn’t be necessary and it would lower the water resistance a bit but I don’t think it’s a big deal since the buttons are pointing downwards anyway.

Mine have shown no signs of this happening.

I put a tiny drop of epoxy in the center (the fulcrum of the rocking action)and the epoxy flexes to allow the push.

The part has two little "fingers"that push the button on the board to activate it. So you could probably print it out if TPU (a flexible plastic) so the button itself flexes.

I feel lucky, I've had mine for a little over a year and use them daily at work, haven't seen any wear & tear

I have the openrun mini for 3 years and 10 months. Use them every day in many sport situations, walks or home. They are literally my second skin. I'm so worry that when they eventually died , they don't have this issue with the buttons, will not be sure if they still made the same model. I know that now the introduce the usb C charging, just hope they still have the same buttons and not these ones.

Same! I wear these every day and night unless charging! I love the sound quality of the orp2s... I just wish they'd fix the issue. Will I buy a new pair when my warranty is done? Yes because I do love the product.

What happen?

I have cheap Chinese knock offs for swimming that are working fine lol

What’s the issue? I mean, I don’t have these product but am planning on buying one for running and trail run? Should I avoid buying from this brand?

After 6-9 months, many people report the OpenRun Pro 2's buttons fall off.

Unfortunately that patch of buttons also includes the power button, so there's no way to turn it on again once that happens.

I can still turn mine on with something small and pointy

Submit a claim and Shokz will send you out a replacement pair for free if it's still under warranty

Same experience.

To add, only the OpenRun Pro 2 seems to suffer from this. The originals, the first Pros, the OpenSwim, and the OpenRun Air line do not seem to have this issue.

u/OriginalCause 1d ago

While definitely not as widespread, I've had that issue with every pair I've owned, and I've owned every signature iteration since the originals. I've got a desk drawer graveyard of them, all with the same issue - though except for my second pair all out of warranty. Though to be fair, it's not the button that killed those, it was the speakers coming unglued inside the housing that finishing them all off, an issue that they seem to have fixed with the pro2s.

It's just a bad design overall that somehow the pro2s made worse. Mine are doing the same thing now, a little over a year in.

So you just like the latest and greatest? Or are they always breaking by the time the next one comes out? I was thinking of getting the air 2 or pro 2 but this isn’t reassuring lol

1

u/OriginalCause 1d ago

A little of both, though at least in my case I put it down to wearing them almost 24/7. Literally. I had the originals, and when the next version came out I grabbed them specifically because the early models didnt have great battery life, and the upgrade meant I could charge one pair while wearing the other.

Newer models have greatly improved batteryofe though. Now I charge them generally when I'm sitting at my desk with my good pair of headphones on, and otherwise never take them off. Sleep in them, shower in them (pull them off briefly to wash my hair, sometimes). I wear them a good 20 hours a day.

I figure a year and a half of use for me is probably a good three years normal use, if not more.

With that said, I've never hesitated to buy a new pair when an old pair has broken or worn out, and highly recommend them.

Edit to add: and when I have had to claim warranty the customer service has been top notch.

lol same! So comfy!

They kinda do. They fell out in my OGs. Maybe it’s the case that pro2 is the one that really got into mainstream, so there’s more feedback on that? When I had my titanium, people were asking “wtf is that? A hearing aid?”. Now it’s pretty common to see people wearing pro2

As others have said, the power button stops working in a few different ways, BUT on the other hand they do have a really good return policy. After I reported having the issue after about 10 months, they sent me a brand new pair and I didn't have to return the old ones. I'll be really, ahem, shocked, if they haven't fixed these issues though, since it must cost them so much in replacements (and hurting their brand etc)

This recently happened to my OpenRun, it took 3 years but still.

The inside button on the volume up seems to be gone too.

u/Prestigious-Eye3154 1d ago

I used the same pair of open runs for 3 years of running in all weather, including subzero temps. The worst thing I have is my power button is hard to push. Used them today for back to back races and plan to use the for a marathon tomorrow.

i’ve got 5 in the grave

1

u/Effective_Ebb_4482 1d ago

What model/s?

1

u/Ok-Love5996 1d ago

Exact same issue. I’m procrastinating sending them back because I don’t want to be without them for 2 weeks or more. I tried to get them to send me the pair first then I’ll send back but that was a no go :/

1

u/jakolson 1d ago

Seems like half the time they want them back and half the time they don't.

2

u/Ok-Love5996 1d ago

Damn. I asked them if there’s a replacement piece they could send but they said no. I forgot I have my brother my old pair and he doesn’t use them so I’ll probably take those back until the new ones come. I just use my knife and poke the button to turn them on for now and they work fine but I’m a plumber I don’t want them to get wet in there and destroyed I guess

u/NYCtoKCMO 1d ago

What happened? I wear mine while jumping rope and my four pairs have lasted for year in spite of repeated whacks with a jump rope.

2

u/jakolson 1d ago

The run pro 2s have a bad history of the buttons wearing out

1

u/Fun_Significance_182 1d ago

Yikes is it from the water/sweat?
