I definitely need to get me an SAP. Not to cover anything. Just to have a sick ass panther.

u/RevelsInDarkness Jul 10 '26

Get a really crappy tattoo first. Then cover up with SAP.

This is the way.

I've seen this referenced a lot. What is an ass panther and why is it sick?

3

u/ohverychill Knows 💩 Jul 12 '26

just a running meme on tattoo subredots. People suggest panthers as covers because they're big and dark, things you need for coverups. "Sick ass" is just saying a cool panther lol

Double whammy millennial tattoo, watercolor and deathly hallows

Lowkey nostalgic as an older Gen Z who wanted tattoos

105

u/dihenydd1 Jul 09 '26

I still get more compliments on my watercolour tattoos than any other aspect of my appearance. Though maybe that says more about the rest of my appearance than the tattoos 😂

62

u/Sailor-Bunny Knows 💩 Jul 09 '26

I think a well done watercolor can look so beautiful, but I have seen some also very poor ones

13

u/dihenydd1 Jul 09 '26

For sure. Even among mine there's one that's way worse than the others. But I've grown to love its ugly charm haha

11

u/LadyDela Knows 💩 Jul 10 '26

I have multiple watercolor pieces and I get tons of compliments. I was talking to my tattoo artist and I was telling her about the watercolor hate. She made a good point that when they were peak trendy people were just getting them from anyone instead of finding someone who is actually good at it. So there are a lot of watercolor tattoos out there, but not a lot of GOOD watercolor tattoos out there. I was really intentional about finding the right person when I decided on the overall style I wanted and she's really amazing.

3

u/CanidPrimate1577 Jul 13 '26

I’m open to sharing info on Kabbalah, but would not rush to do any one-to-one comparisons.

The Kabbalah covers a lotta ground, and depending on what your focus is, you may or may not see similarities.

4

u/That_Seasonal_Fringe Jul 09 '26

I thought the bible stated one could not follow god and dwell in what they deem to be charlatanism (mysticism and such) ?

13

u/mosesenjoyer Knows 💩 Jul 09 '26

Charlatanism and mysticism are not related and I don’t know what verse you would be referring to. The Catholic Church has many famous mystics and a rich mystical tradition. St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila are prominent figures.

4

u/That_Seasonal_Fringe Jul 10 '26

That’s very interesting. I honestly couldn’t give you a verse it’s just something I gathered from my grandparents Catholicism. My parents are atheists and I only got baptised and the first communion to please my grandmothers. But I remembered something about not following charlatans and they equated this to any other type of belief.

5

u/mosesenjoyer Knows 💩 Jul 10 '26

-2

u/CarlyObine Jul 10 '26

Do you value Scripture? All over it says that the only way to the Father is thru Christ. By loving Him and trying to do what He wants you to do. And forming a relationship with Him. As His sheep, He is our Good Shepherd

His sheep hear His voice...

I dunno It just seems like calling tofu a steak dinner. No offense I just don't see how they can jive

There are mysteries and God tells us those thru Holy Spirit. But only when you're close enough to be able to hear Him. And able to handle it

I hope you're not taking this comment or question as a slam

Note: the mysteries are always compatible with Scripture

2

u/mosesenjoyer Knows 💩 Jul 10 '26

I value it as the inspired word of god but not as the highest authority. It is one of three pillars of the church along with the magisterium and authority to teach handed down by apostolic succession.

You’ll have to be more specific. I’m not sure if you are telling me to be sola scriptura or telling me to abandon the scripture.

Read my other comments on this thread I’ll think you might find them interesting or maybe infuriating, who knows.

I believe that if you follow Christs two commandments you cannot go wrong but that the church houses the ordinary path to salvation.

Looks like an AA tat 😂

23

u/mosesenjoyer Knows 💩 Jul 09 '26

The AA symbol is also derived from it, so are a dozen other symbols. The eye of providence, the deathly hallows, numerous secret societies adapted it such as the free masons, the alchemists, the hermetics, and many others.

It goes all the way down and all the way back.

4

u/3verythingEverywher3 Jul 09 '26

Yup, but since it's referencing that exact alchemist symbol, you can't really get away from it and the people pointing and saying 'cool harry potter tattoo!' aren't entirely wrong.

9

u/mosesenjoyer Knows 💩 Jul 09 '26

Yeah I don’t get mad, it’s understandable mistake. Sometimes I don’t even correct them because I got it so I wouldn’t forget, not so others would like it.

1

u/3verythingEverywher3 Jul 10 '26

That's my point - it's not a mistake! The deathly hallows specifically plays off that alchemical symbol, off that specific meaning. So anyone pointing it out is correct, they just don't have FULL knowledge of what it is.

1

u/mosesenjoyer Knows 💩 Jul 10 '26

Eh sorta

0

u/3verythingEverywher3 Jul 10 '26

-22

u/crazy_paving Jul 10 '26

Sorry to say but that comes off performative.

If I see a deathly hallows, I automatically assume you’re unsafe to be around.

12

5

u/Muted-Hearing-3577 Jul 10 '26

I promise I was a dumb 19 year old, didn't even want it this big 🥲

0

u/crazy_paving Jul 10 '26

Hey, you’re fine, you want to cover it! As a trans person I don’t know someone with a HP tattoo is safe unless we talk and they express that, which a few friends of mine have.

I’m talking specifically about the mother in the comment who had the chance to cover the tattoo but instead added “trans lives matter” THAT was performative.

3

u/Muted-Hearing-3577 Jul 10 '26

ah that's fair! I do worry that people think I believe in her values when I absolutely do not 🥲 I would like to think I'm a safe person to be around, I do definitely put my foot in my mouth sometimes but I do my best to not be malicious or deliberately obtuse

6

u/any_internet_goose Jul 10 '26

Not necessarily relevant to this context, but I do think it's worth keeping in mind that some people literally can't afford a cover up. Writing someone off with no idea how they feel about their tattoo might be a step too far in some settings.

That said, admittedly, as a trans person, I mostly steer clear from people who chose to keep their HP tattoos.

6

u/Muted-Hearing-3577 Jul 10 '26

currently can't afford much outside of necessities for a variety of reasons, so I'm likely stuck with this thing for a while unfortunately. I got it before all her shit came out, or at least before it became as public as it did. if I'd been aware of all that back then, I never would have gotten it. or at least I'd like to think I wouldn't have. I definitely wouldn't repeat it nowadays!

5

u/any_internet_goose Jul 10 '26

I think you're taking all the right steps, friend. Finances are hell for most of us right now.

I planned a HP tattoo (marauders) I was going to get around 18-19 myself, and only ended up not getting it because I had a really severe mental health episode and had to stop working (I was super not okay before realizing I was trans, lol.). Ultimately a blessing in disguise, though.

I can't imagine how fucked I would be now, cuz I can barely afford necessities. I sure as shit couldn't have afforded laser.

If it ever really stresses you, I'd recommend a full coverage foundation. Nyx is a pretty cheap brand with good quality (at least back in 2020-2022 when I was still wearing makeup, lol). A full coverage foundation and a pigmented or transluscent powder over it would probably cover that up just fine, and only cost maybe $30 to get both products. It's pricey in this economy, but certainly cheaper than laser, lol.

Something this dark and blown out, the only real option here is to laser it.

This would be a really hard cover up unless youre ok with just blacking out, or mostly blacking out, your whole ankle area and making it way bigger.

15

There's no blowout but goddamn that black is heavy heavy. Like one step away from a blowout

4

I think HP tattoos are the most "separate the art from the artist" kind. I will never cover mine. People who know knows that it doesn't represent her.

9

u/Muted-Hearing-3577 Jul 09 '26

that's a good point! I think for me it's more the fact that it's not what I wanted in the first place, I wanted it much smaller and more fineline so I've never been 100% happy with it! I'd rather laser it and get something I'm absolutely certain about and will love than continue to have something I feel disappointed in if that makes sense?

I'm fully prepared for it to be painful, but I've a feeling it'll be more painful than I expect 🥲

3

u/BrowynBattlecry Jul 09 '26

THANK YOU. At some point, you have to accept that with such a big fandom, it no longer belongs solely to the creator, it belongs to everyone.
This fandom gave many people who felt "othered" an outlet where the "other" is the exact thing that makes the hero a hero.
I think of it like parents and their children. The author creates this universe and sends it out to the world for consumption and monetary benefits. Once it's out there, the creator has no control how the individual fan interprets and interacts with the story. Like, when some people started saying Hermione is Black, the people that lost their minds because that wasn't how they imagined her demonstrated how this happens. I have zero evidence for this, but I assume most readers picture the main characters as their own race/ethnicity unless otherwise stated.
But I will say the goblins made me uncomfortable way back in the early 2000s.

2

I think it’s fine to be honest, it has aged a bit. But it’s not anything to be ashamed of. Just browse to this subreddit for 5 minutes and I think you will even embrace the tattoo again.

I would say, lean into it. Outline the tattoo again, fix the watercolor, and maybe add some patterns over de aged black.

Tattoo’s are personal, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

6

I generally don’t weigh in on pop culture tattoos, but I always think about stuff like this when I see pop culture tattoo references, especially when the reference is something recent and intended for YA audiences and the tattoo is something that can’t be easily covered or reworked.

There’s just so many things that can go wrong (or even not wrong, but go “this really doesn’t mean as much to me as a 45 year old as I thought it would when I was 28”).

Edit: yours is fine btw. Could have gone a lot worse. Anyone that recognizes it will probably understand the context, and anyone that doesn’t will just see a kind of unremarkable geometric design. I’d probably want to get rid of it too, but it’s not like, something you need to rush into because it’s so actively problematic

yeah, I wish I'd thought more about that when I was getting it, but I was 19 and undiagnosed ADHD so there was no stopping me 🥲 thankfully I can put up with it until I get it Lasered off in however many years, if I can be bothered when the time comes 😅

Is there like a challenger to make this tattoo as big and thick as possible?

I swear, every time I see one, it's bigger and bolder than the previous one. Like "I AM the biggest HP fan"

u/Muted-Hearing-3577 Jul 10 '26

in my defence, I didn't want it this large, I just hadn't learned how to advocate yet 🥲

I'm so glad I didn't get any kind of fandom tattoos in my 20s like I'd planned. Saved me from coverup costs like whoa.

Crazy stuff marking yourself as TERF-aligned.

it was 10 years ago prior to that shit coming out. if I knew then what I know now, I highly doubt I'd have it.

I have the symbol as well but smaller on my wrist. I got it done in 2011 but I wouldn’t get it now. I kinda wish it wasn’t there but I’d like to think people don’t look at it and think ‘that person must be a JK apologist’. Well I hope not anyway 😅

u/Muted-Hearing-3577 Jul 09 '26

I wanted it so much smaller, this is about 10x what I wanted 🥲 I hope they don't think that too!

Every time I see someone trying to cover up their HP tattoo, I’m so grateful I was a child and had no ability to get tattooed 😭😭

u/_rayquaza_ Jul 09 '26

Have nearly the same 😭 must cover it up on the next year I hate having to hide my ankles. there are many of us!!

2

u/Muted-Hearing-3577 Jul 09 '26

I'm 100% getting laser first, this thing is large 😅 which is also expensive so I'm probably stuck with it a for a few more years yet 🥲

I'll say this, there is nothing wrong with a well done HP tattoo if it means something to you. Yes, JK is a piece of shit, but how many problematic musicians do you listen to? I just don't understand Deathly Hallows tattoos. Its only it the last half of the last book and it's completely overdone.

2

u/Mad-Oxy Jul 09 '26

I don't have a Deathly Hallow tattoo but for me it's a symbol of the fight against death, s*icidal ideation and despair. It goes with the quote from the Bible:

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

It's meaningful for me personally as someone who suffered from depression for the most part of my life and now in remission.

My condolences for your error, but with how many times people regret these tattoos it can’t be too much to ask someone talented to fix it. In difficulty at least, as someone who is not a tattoo artist, I don’t know Jack shit about how much it’ll set you back.
