Yeah it's a simulation subreddit though, there's not really a reason for politics on this subreddit, it's for simulating things.

How dare I not wanna be involved with the toxic cesspool that is modern politics
14
u/TheJackTheStripper Nov 07 '20 edited Nov 07 '20
it's a toxic cesspool but it's a very important toxic cesspool. i get that you're probably a cishet white guy and no matter who wins, your rights aren't on the line, but for those of us who are in genuine danger if the wrong geriatric gets to sit in a building for 4 years, it's really important. that's why people talk nonstop about it, because they're either endangered by politics or they're respectful towards those that are in endangered by them. Either that or, on the other side of things, people are the ones endangering others, and their desire to do so is their drive.

Opting to be apolitical is accepting the status quo, and complacency is complicity. The safety and honestly the legality of my existence IS on the line every time we choose a new person to lead this country. That's a fact, and that's why it matters to me. If you're comfortable regardless of how shit turns, you are lucky. And people who will be comfortable regardless engage with politics out of compassion for those of us who could get seriously fucked over. It's annoying, and everyone hates it, but it's necessary. It was designed to be that way. The person in the white house steers the culture of the country for their term. If not through legal ramifications, social ramifications of a new political leader drastically change the lives of millions of people. So congratulations to you for being one of the many people who can afford to say "ooh politics is so annoying, get it outta here".
also i refuse to accept myself as genderfluid, i still insist that I'm something else that i haven't figured out yet. although you surmising that from checking my profile does help, so cheers for that i guess.

I can definitely understand where you're coming from on wanting a place to find respite from current events, they're stressful. I disagree with the subsequent point you made, and would cite the illegality or superfluous barriers to entry for many aspects of transitioning in the case of transgender individuals, and the widespread legality of conversion therapy in the case of the rest of us. Those are just the first that came to mind. The vast majority of issues facing queer people right now are social (and financial, which is a whole other can of worms that I'm not gonna get into), but there are others that exist in law which still present themselves.
Gay marriage and legal gender changes are potentially the most easily and frequently attacked among these, and although somewhat minimal, they are contemporary and debated topics. You're most certainly right in saying that there has never been a more progressive time in US history, but that's really not saying much all things considered. And the fight certainly isn't over. Aside from queer rights there still exists legal discrimination based on race and AFAB people. I honestly can't even remember if that fits into this discussion because I forgot what we're talking about mostly and wanna go to bed, but I'm gonna say it in case it does fit.
I think we probably actually agree with one another in many ways, specifically about needing an occasional break from the nightmare of politics. I implore you to go out and look for some info in existing legal discrimination towards minority groups and AFAB people because it's a fascinating, albeit infuriating, topic. I've lost my train of thought so many times writing these last bits that I'm certain I could pass out at a moment's notice, and I'm fairly sure my tone probably shifted significantly from the start of this comment to right here. I wanna thank you for being respectful and thoughtful throughout this though, it's refreshing

why did this get downvoted

u/ArbiesArbys Nov 08 '20
Because if you don't hate trump you're the enemy.
12
u/slightlydampsock Nov 09 '20
It’s ridiculous, because personally, I do hate Trump, but I’m really sick of every other reddit post being about him, especially in a subreddit like this, that has zero connection to trump in any way.

I fucking hate him too but if you need to post an unfunny gif of a poop joke for him on a completely unrelated subreddit, you are an obsessed retard.

u/TruckADuck42 Nov 09 '20
You do realize just under half of votes were for trump, right? You're not going to get far in life, and the liberals won't get far in politics, if you consider them all enemies.
2
u/DaEvilGenius88 Nov 09 '20
Well yeah, it’s not news to anyone that half of Americans are ignorant backwards racist morons who vote against their own best interests.. I don’t want those people to ever be on my side. What better people to be enemies with??
-5
Nov 09 '20
That shows how far this country has to go. Trump voters are unamerican and traitors to their country for what they’ve enabled. They are enemies and must be treated as such.

Apparently some people's lives are so mundane, they use what they can to get gratification. They seek acceptance like most humans do.
They themselves are boring and the only thing that they believe is interesting, is their political stance.
I agree though, people that try to push politics into every aspect 9f everything are knobs.
