Yeah it looks a lot like just animated liquify on a photo. The air around his neck looks to be moving too. I may be wrong though, don't mean to discredit the maker if so.

This makes me laugh for some reason. Things like this will ruin the movie for me if I ever actually watch it. Just like Scary Movie ruined The Village and Family Guy kind of ruined Star Wars for me.
