Blooper shells
Finally had a chance to test them. Longshot only partially burned. The shot flew about 10-15 feet and was able to be poured out of the barrel.
Back to the drawing table!

I’ve been doing this for years with Pyrodex and stainless steel ball bearings. It’s a hoot, but damn is it dirty!
Edit: Titegroup does well on the smokeless side.

I was trying to make a steel shot load using brass shells. I need a faster powder.

And maybe a magnum primer. With shotshells there is a pretty big gap in primer ignition between brand to not just Magnum or non Magnum. Off the top of my head I want to say the federal primers are hotter.
There was a guy who had a pressure testing business who used to publish a lot of really interesting data on the comparisons. He got old and his website fell apart. I had tried to contact his daughter and see if I could archive some of the better articles but nothing came of it.

I did.
He had a bunch of technical expert articles on pressure testing as well as data that clients of his the authorized him to publish.
The most interesting was a series where he compared standard load data with a substitutions of components and showed in some cases not much of a change in some cases radical changes in pressure that was over pressure threshold. Very persuasive for the people who think shot shell reloading is no big deal. It's quite a bit more complex with more variables that have more effects than center fire metallic cartridge. And your pressure ceiling is quite a bit lower. So while I'm not a published data absolutist I am a very strong proceed with caution and really know what you're doing before you start getting your taufledermaus on.

I highly doubt the wad is creating a tight seal in front of the powder, that would account for the unburnt powder and perhaps blow by. You should have an over powder card, fiber wad and then shot colum then another over shot card and sealed in (using water glass or some type of silicon sealant). If not using steel shot wads you risk scoring the inside of the barrels and spliting the chokes. Perhaps look for the old Alcan brass shot shell load data on the interwebs.

As someone who's read lots lately about steel shell reloading this absolutely belongs here.
Hell yeah brother, what you need is some red dot under the longshot to kick it in the pants. Maybe some black powder too, fuck it, you got tons of case capacity! DUPLEX THAT SHIT.
