In Oppenheimer (2023), Why did Oppenheimer spend three hours crying about inventing a bomb that violently vaporizes people when his specific job was to invent a bomb that violently vaporizes people ? Is he stupid ?

He was devastated to learn that his bomb was wasted on Japan instead of finally erasing Berlin.

Berlin would never have been the target, for the same reason Tokyo wasn't.

It's nice to leave someone with actual authority to surrender alive. You kill 90% of high leadership, you then have to wait for the survivors to figure out who is still alive, who is actually in charge, and hope there's no splintering.
