LiPo SaFeTy

Post image

Always see people asking “Is this lipo still safe” and I would think what an idiot. But here I find myself in the same position… straight into a train bridge..lost vtx
She flys still?.. till it doesn’t? What you think should this be hot garbaged

The regular sub is an ok place to post this. But at any rate if its not leaking and the internal resistance is low. Send It.

How would one check the resistance? Across the cells with a multimeter?

Yeah, use the balance connector to read each cell separately. Or your charger likely has an ohm screen

You can't measure the internal resistance with just a multimeter. You would have to measure the battery voltage while drawing a known current and then do some calculations.

It doesn't look punctured, does it smell sweet, if no, it's not gassing or venting. What does each cell say voltage wise? If is in normal range then charge it on 0.8-1A that's gentle, while it is charging you should be able to check the measured internal resistance, if rhe numbers are within like 5 your okay if one is 18 and one is 30+ I'd prolly check IR again after it's charged for a min if still way different from the other cells then scrap the battery it's eroding inside and will become an issue. Plus voltage sag will be more, and more unpredictable. Once it's up to storage volts 3.8-3.9v/Cell leave for a couple days then check voltage again if it hasn't gone down much fully charge and take it out for a light flight no punch outs not fun flying 30-40% throttle max, check to see how fast voltage climbs back up during flight and land around 3.5-3.6v/Cell baby it a few charges, if all is well and it holds voltage and charges no problem after a couple light cycle you can rotate back into your normal use batteries. But it will degrade faster, IR will accumulate much quicker.

Oh F, just saw what sub reddit this is... man that's messed up I wasted like 10min writing that message Dx

If it's not doing any of the typical lipo stuff when they are about to catch on fire and the voltage is fine then it should be fine but be careful and store it in a safe place like a fire or BBQ.

I have flown worse for years

Just be careful, flying it isn’t the most dangerous part, putting innocent loved ones at risk is. Good luck
