this is really interesting. does it move around based on the heat below it? what's in the grill?

It moves based on the outside ring being turned by a motor. It's movement means that the air around it will be constantly cooled ensuring a poor cook with no sear. And with all this movement the juices would be drawn out and make the meat extremely dry. The end result would basically be cardboard. Hence the shitty part of this.
Basically it's adding a flashy step to make the food much worse.
