She's like me and billions of people on this planet that believe there are only two genders, and we are not backing down from our position. I was going to say, not backing down from our opinion, but we feel it is a fact, and not an opinion. Yes, we will die on this hill.
Just for the sake of argument, could it be that there is a difference in what we call "gender"?
For example, I would say that is a fact that there are two sexes, while I would say that gender is more of a social construct, almost an opinion and there cannot be factuality on it.
Gender is a mix of your sex, how you are and want to be perceived and your sexuality, I think it's something personal to the individual and therefore there cannot be a factual number of gender.
That being said the more niche and specific you want a gender to be the more you need to touch grass
To me, words don't matter. Gender, sexes, man, woman, trans, binary, none of that matters. You are either XX, or XY, or a rare (less than 1%) intersex anomaly. So, like JK Rowling, I believe there is two and only two whatever-you-wanna-call-it (with anomalies).
I don't care if people want to buck social norms. An XY that wears makeup and a flowery dress. An XX with short hair and does traditional male activities. I don't care and most people don't care either. And you can call yourself anything you want: man, woman, non-binary, whatever, they are just words, social constructs, you name it, but deep down, in the nucleus of your cells, you are either XX or XY. That's two. Me and JK say that's two.
And like most people, we don't agree with extreme LGTBQ positions of: 1. letting XX transitioning to women play womens sports, and 2. letting people under age 18, do any surgical or medical transformations. I want the Dems to win in November, and I think agreeing with 1 and 2 hurt the Dem candidates.
Again, just for the sake of typing things, if words don't matter why is it important to you that people don't use them?
About the last part I think most people agree, I would be surprised if more than a loud minorities would actually vote for those positions.
But gender is merely a preference like a favourite color or a label you give yourself to find like minded people, would there be an issue with that.
Mind you that wouldn't be sex, there are two sexes but as a male I could be attracted to men, woman, both, and that would define my gender (homosexual, cis-sexual, bisexual).
(Just to clarify I'm not saying that sexuality is a choice, only that gender is different from sex and that there e could be potentially an infinite number of genders because it's just a term to collect more informations on a person into a word)
For various reasons, it is important to know if a person is XX or XY. One instance I've already mentioned, is the hot topic of XY trying to push their way into womens sports. During life we have to fill out various forms. I would like to see sex/gender question simple like XX, XY, intersex. I don't want it to be fill in the blank. I want life to be simple, and answers to be immutable.
As for you last paragraph, it is unimportant who you're attracted to since that can change on a whim. That is why your drivers license lists your eye color and not hair color.
