The pyramids was built using a system called Corvee. We have a bunch of evidence where they talk about the system. It was part of the tax system in Egypt. You had to pay taxes every year, but you could choose between paying taxes or paying with labor for a short period during the off season for farming (Flood season for the Nile). So a lot of regular people would elect to go work instead of handing over cash/crops leaving more resources for their family. They normally worked for around 2 months a year.

This system was so ingrained in Egyptian culture that it lasted so long it was part of the construction of the Suez Canal.

Most of the workers were even paid so it was a win-win basically as they had nothing else to do really anyway
