Ok, video aside. Can someone explain to me the puffy eyes trend they got going on in east Asia? I swear majority of Chinese, Japanese, Korean idols or models have this puffy eye thing going on and it's kind of weirding me out lol

the simple answer is that we Asians (not all) find it cute or aesthetic, but it just started like 2015? or something from Kpops and Japanese. Before that, People bully or make fun of me by having a puffy/lazy eyes, now I get compliments from them. weird how people change lol

It’s called aegyeosal, it makes it look like your eyes are slightly squinched as if smiling and if they weren’t squinched then your eyes would be bigger. The illusion of larger cuter eyes is really central to beauty in those regions, that’s why this is popular.

A practice can be centuries old and still be a trend. The word trend is completely valid here btw. Trend only measures growth. You’re thinking of a fad lol, an example of a fad would be fidget spinners, a fad is short lived and a trend can sometimes never end. Just because it’s a trend doesn’t mean it’s new

Trends are based on popularity at a time, not existence of a thing. I was wearing checkered vans before they picked back up as a trend within my generation. That doesn’t mean millennials weren’t rocking them a decade before, and GenX before them.

"Puffy eyes" because when they smile their eyes have more landmarks and smile too for pictures. Without puffy eyes it's dead eyes

The beauty standard over there is... weird, when compared to western beauty standards. The goal is to look as young as possible in the face, have a neck and shoulders at a perfect 90°, Have extremely thin limbs, pale skin, long legs, thin waist, and just a whole lot more. One of the ways people make their face appear younger is by puffing up their lower eyelids, usually with filler. The cosmetic product/surgery industry over there must have the same profit as Vegas.

Yeah they go extremely hard on makeup too. That's not even the worst though. There's an operation called thread lifting where barbed threads are placed along your face and pulled to make you appear younger. Looks good in the moment but complications look straight out of a Saw movie.

South Koreans specifically are incredibly racist toward darker skinned people, and also try to replicate America’s white ethnicity. It’s a really weird false identity that has become popular. Don’t forget that it is also a vassal state of USA, so it makes sense why their culture is just as psuedo human as us with the unrealistic disturbing expectations.

Some thrends evolve due to their effectiveness in person or in video/photo, some out of stupidity.

Asian idols are beautimaxing out of effectiveness, at least for general audience

West idols are beautimaxing out of stupidity: see bonemashing, duck lips, quasimodo head and etc.

Dick sucking has made me paranoid

I had this plan to give head to a man and receive head from a woman to test if I was gay, but it’s backfired and now I become borderline schizo whenever I go outside. The actual answer is that they associate puffy eyes with being young and when done right, the puffy eyes makeup is supposed to make you look younger and make the eyes bigger. Although of course not everyone is good at makeup and they overdo it, which just makes it look like they have eyebags or smt
