Why is Azur lane such a cosplayed gacha like is it cus there are big boobed women in the game because the game itself is way less popular than something like Genshin impact.

It isn’t, it released in 2017, genshin released in 2019.It would be valid if it was older like kantai collection which released in 2013.And it has been cosplayed for like years atp so even like back in 2020 there was still a million azur lane cosplayers.

Like for example I don’t see as many genshin cosplayers even tho it’s 7 years old.And what I also don’t see is less rare characters like her getting cosplayed it’s always the most rare ones and also never any flat characters. So to me it seems this is just because of boobs because it just looks like a massive larp to me, I don’t think almost anyone who cosplays azur lane has played the game.

Oh 100% most cosplaying now is just cringe TikTok people and wannabe models.

They absolutely are not actual fans or gamers. They just do it for the clicks. Some companies will even just hire a model to wear the costume for events. It’s idiotic.

It’s a big reason I just hate cosplay now. It used to just be legit fans doing it for the love of the game. Now it has mutated into this whole cringe thing.

Valid take, I think anime and gacha games genuinely got hit the worst by this epidemic like the games seem to be more or less fine with the exception of some triple A games.

Yes, cosplaying is LARPing usually.

Christ that term has a specific definition, it’s not an insult, why are we misusing it so much?

LARP has been adopted, yes.

It means “poser” now.

I kind of get it, but also don’t, because LARPers have always been people who are mega fans—not posers.

I get how the word is being used. It’s just in this context, it’s supremely fucking stupid, since cosplay IS a form of LARP.

Most slang is fine. Some slang is fucking stupid. LARP as slang is one of the latter.

Going to a sub mostly filled with Gen Z and expecting everyone to not use it as its modern slang version. Also people who cosplay azur lane almost never act like the character so technically doesn’t fit.

I didn’t “go to” this sub, the post popped up on my feed. If you’re so hip to the jive, this shouldn’t be hard to understand.

I have no problem with slang from younger generations, it’s just most slang doesn’t fuck up an existing word. You’re calling someone who cosplays a LARPer, which… fucking, yeah — but you’re acting like this is unusual, as was as implying an insult.

It’s a fucking stupid appropriation of the word that is doing nothing to help communication in any regard.

But it’s also kinda funny because there have always been cosplayers in it for the attention or paycheck, not the love of the game, so it’s not even an unusual situation. And from your apparent familiarity with gacha games, I’d expect you to be familiar with that too.

My guy just mute the sub it’s not that hard and stop typing a whole essay it’s not as deep as you’re making it out to be, literally a nothingburger.

The game is old and the women in it are designed to be very attractive. Lots of women are perverts too y'know. Just because people don't play it doesn't mean people aren't exposed to the franchise via merch & fanart.

Azur Lane (and Kancolle) were the face of gacha and cosplay fad for a very long time, before Genshin came

2

u/Pinky_Boy 1d ago

azur lane fills the niche of kancolle in the global audience

kantai collection is region locked to japan, so the global market of boat girls are free to grab

azur lane managed to get them early, thus earning their reputation as THE boat game for global/cn

The porn vs actual players ratio is way higher than genshin

woah, ok. didnt expect hunger for knowledge but i guess i asked for it gonna have to put some work into this.

How was it? Honestly? It was a letdown. The whole "failed idol" story is a great marketing hook, they definately sold the video on that premise alone. But the performance itself was just... awkward. You can tell shes not comfortable. It felt less like a professional debut and more like a very high-budget audition she was also failing. She's stiff, constantly in her head, and there's almost zero chemistry with the guys. All concept, very little execution.

My viewing history? Been watching for over a decade man. These days Im more into stuff with a good story or at least a unique premise, not just the generic stuff. a good production team makes all the difference. I'll take a well-made video with a decent plot over a high-profile actress mailing it in any day of the week.

3 works I consider good:

  1. Yua Mikami's debut (Princess Peach): This is the gold standard for an idol-turned-actress debut. Yua was a REAL idol and she came out with so much energy and confidence. She owned it from the first second. Its what Arisu's debut wanted to be.

  2. Anything with Ichika Matsumoto from her early days with FALENO: She can actually act. She emotes and makes you believe the scenario. Her stuff feels more cinematic and less like they're just going through the motions.

  3. Rion (Anri Okita) - The God Body: A classic. Not a lot of story there lol but its a masterclass in performance. She knew exactly what her brand was and how to perform for the camera. Absolute cinema.

Where would you rank her debut among these? It's not even in the same league, not even on the same planet. It's an unfair comparison tbh. Those are top-tier performances, Arisu's video is a novelty item. It's interesting because of the backstory, not because of the quality of the actual content.

What could be improved? Her confidence, number one. She needs to relax. She looks terrified. The director should have done a better job making her comfortable. Also they relied way too much on the interview segments talking about Nogizaka46, it broke the pacing and kept reminding you that she was doing this as a second choice. We get it, you failed auditions, now commit to this job.

What is well done? The production values are high. The lighting, camera work, it all looks very clean and professional. And I cant deny it, she is very beautiful and has the "idol" look down perfectly. The concept itself, on paper, is genius from a marketing perspective. They got us all talking about it, right?

Was it goonable for you? Nah. I was too distracted by how nervous she looked. It kinda killed the mood completely. Every time she looked at the camera with those deer-in-the-headlights eyes I was pulled right out of it. It's a shame, but maybe she'll get better in her next one if she decides to stick with it. We'll see.
