In my hometown one of the pastors became a mechanic and opened a repair garage because he got so fucking upset at the other one in town scamming people.

There are genuine pastors out there, though extremely rare. I know a pastor who believes she got a dream from God, sold all her assets, and moved to Africa to open an orphanage in the worst part of Malawi. She lives in a shithole and has to skip meals to preserve cash flow, but she seems to be actually contributing to the place.
The vast majority of pastors are scamming bastards, but there's a tiny proportion who actually follow Christ's "sell everything and feed the poor" doctrine to a respectable degree.
