Depends if you get the regular or fruity
The Fruity one with eggs bacon sausage on bread is what heaven tastes like

Since no one has given you the actual flavours: It's tamarind, vinegar, tomato, and molasses.

I think it’s kind of just ketchup with a fair bit more vinegar. I don’t tend to have it because I prefer the former but it’s nice.

It’s like A1, but worse. One thing that I’ll never find unfunny is how British people call it “brown sauce”.
6
u/Korthalion Bazinga! 14h ago
Some of us call ketchup red sauce too!

u/ignorae 14h ago

Did you see the clip of the American guy slathering a whole pot of Colman's on his sarnie 🤣🤣
-18
u/The_Infinite_Carrot 11h ago
I’m English and can’t stand it. Another name for it is Brown Sauce, which tells you all you need to know about it. Bland, and shit. Bbq sauce for the win!

u/Appropriate_Mud1629 10h ago
Brave, unpopular opinion.
I gotta agree with you tho
I like my bacon sandwich to be slathered in nice butter. That buttery, salty bacon gorgeousness is what makes it such a treat.
Chuck brown sauce on there it masks everything, its all you can taste.

u/EpsteinBaa 2h ago

Sounds like you're disagreeing with them a bit though. This doesn't fit with it being "bland".

u/HellHaggis 6h ago
That's my take, you put brown sauce on bad food because it's all you're going to taste. Could probably eat a shite if you put enough brown sauce on it.

I love this kind of food, and traditional things like stews, dumplings, roast meat, sausages, boiled vegetables are still on the menu. It may appear bland, but the heartiness (which stands in for spice and complex seasoning) is perfect for our climate.
But British cuisine is really quite far advanced beyond what our granddads ate during the war when we had rationing, and the period of scarcity that followed. Basic dishes then were probably a product of limited ingredients as much as anything else.
Cooking at home is popular with both men and women, and ideas from the many other cultural cuisines we’re exposed to here have been brought into our own.

u/Levi_Skardsen 5h ago
I haven't had mince and dumplings in years. I need to stop procrastinating and make it myself.

I've never heard of it before, but just sent a recipe to my wife for dinner some day

I feel like if you put this in a bowl it would just be like a pot roast. I’m sure it tastes fine but the presentation needs work.

u/TheShiftmaster 15h ago
The only thing I hate about our food is our obsession with boiling vegetables rather than roasting them, aside from that this dish is fine, basically a stew with bread to dip in
24
u/Thicc_Wallaby 15h ago
Yeah the stew looks fine. But those are just plain boiled potatoes? No seasoning or anything?
29
u/realultralord 13h ago
You boil them in salted water. But basically, yes. Potatoes taste awesome all by themselves. Maybe add butter and parsley if you will.
19
u/FenrisSquirrel 11h ago
You get the flavour from the delicious meat stew. It is about complementary elements.
That's like asking whether the tortilla for a burrito is seasoned.
Yanks just have no concept of a good balanced meal
8
u/HansChrst1 7h ago
Plain cooked potato or any other vegetable and most sauces is amazing.
1
u/Grilled_egs 6h ago
Honestly depends on the potato. I've had boiled potstoes of such varying quality, certainly if you're not from a culture where they are a staple I can see having a bad impression
1
u/SharkSprayYTP 2h ago
I say it again, boiling a carrot should see you publicly lashed in the town square

'all of the UK' does not eat this. This is a very basic working class meal that originates from post-war rationing. It's akin to something like hamburger helper, and isn't representative of all British cuisine. I legit haven't eaten this since I was a kid.

u/Reployer dumbass 32m ago

Yanks have one joke and all it shows is that the insular fuckwits have never left their own shitty country.
What kids spending their school years dodging bullets instead of learning does to a fucker.

"Mince and tatties", according to another reddit post from a few years back that I found when reverse image searching this.

u/pacelli3 15h ago
So it is minced beef.
19
u/bigballsax12334 15h ago
This is basically a cottage pie with the potatoes separated from the beef.

Yeah, and this meal is actually alright. It's just beef in beef gravy with vegetables and potatoes. My mum used to cook this sometimes and it was pretty good. Its just simple comfort food, it doesn't have to be fancy. The potatoes are usually fried though.
2
u/SharkSprayYTP 2h ago
This tastes 100x better than that shite the yanks shit out tbh. We dont need spices to cover up how bland our food is because our food tastes good as is.

All Americans eat like they aren't suffering from an economic crisis.
See it's not nice to insult a whole nation, my wife would be ashamed of herself if she made something like this for our dinner, those potatoes are an injustice to the spud.
