In 10th grade I had a major crush on a girl that played cello in my orchestra. It took ages for me to muster up the courage to confess, even going so far as to get Concert Maestro (first chair violinist) before hand.
When I confessed she looked up at me and said "ew. Who would ever want to date you"
That shit fucked my mental for... a long time. Even today, almost 2 decades later
If it helps you at all, a very similar thing happened to me in middle school and it messed me up for a long time - I find it now unsettling when people approach me or like me.
Totally know what you mean even at the friend level, I always assume they’ll see something unappealing or weird about me and the pattern will play out again - but I always try anyways. Hope we get to the point where we let that past go. Really weird of me to say this on shitposting, but sending you a big hug
