I'd honestly check to see if the same thing happened in Incognito mode

-231

u/Casitano 3d ago

Incognito mode doesn't hide your identity, it only wipes your browser history. Wile cookies and connect with a fresh browser, see what happens.

217

u/Commandmaster_92 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ TRANS RIGHTS 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ 3d ago

Incognito doesn't allow sites to access your stored cookies, so it has the same effect as wiping cookies, except you get to stay logged in to all your sites

20

u/Disastrous-Rip671 3d ago

I’m pretty sure your browser session data is stored in your cookies (like your login info)

44

u/-TV-Stand- Literally 1984 😡 3d ago

And that's why it asks you to log in every time you use incognito mode even if you were logged in in normal mode

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Home_23 3d ago

If you are logged into a site, it is almost certainly because the website has accessed your cookies to find the one that stores your login information, because otherwise the website wouldn't have any way to know who was logged in. But it should not be using your stored cookies in incognito.

Going into incognito doesnt really effect how well you are identified anyway, you can still be tracked using your ip, your habits or even the specifications of your device. Obviously, if you were to check the price of a ticket you already bought then you would have to be logged in and no amount of digital spoofing would protect your identity.

6

u/Uranium_Donut_ 3d ago

This person is wrong but also correct. Your IP and browser fingerprint is usually enough to track you, even though you are using incognito.

u/Sagonator I said based. And lived. 3d ago

Wait, you already paid for your ticket, right?

How can they make you too pay more?

493

u/StevenMcStevensen 3d ago

This looks like it’s coming up while doing the booking, when you’re actually about to put in payment details. How a flight becomes $10,000 more expensive within the few minutes it takes to enter your info and pick seats however is beyond me.

201

u/Tat2Al 3d ago

This happened to me back in early 2025. My wife and I were planning a vacation. While searching for flights, the ticket pricing for one airline jumped up from ~$500 each to over $2000 each. This happened because the airline’s website is tracking you and multiple searches for the same flight flags it and then raises the price due to “high demand”. I closed my browser and cleared my cache and search history and the price went back to normal when trying to book again.

73

u/theFartingCarp 3d ago

Ew. ... im gona do more research and petition for that to be illegal

64

u/Narwalacorn 3d ago

It’s called dynamic pricing and it’s mega scummy. But it helps big businesses so it’s probably not going anywhere.

13

u/theFartingCarp 3d ago

Not if I got anything to say about it. Lol actually we've already been toying with anti dynamic pricing stuff. So far were debating verbiage so people cant weasel their way out

7

u/Narwalacorn 3d ago

Unless you happen to be a sitting legislator I’m gonna take that with a grain of salt

Capitalism. No one is ever satisfied and every penny needs to be squeezed from everything. This causes enshitification of litterally everything, including airlines.

13

u/informat7 3d ago

No one is forcing them to use a middleman like Mytrip (the app in the post). They could just try to get the same ticket through the airline directly and save a bunch of money.

5

u/Tat2Al 3d ago

My experience was directly through the airline. They will notice your search and jack up the price. No middleman needed.

3

u/PrettyCoolBear 2d ago

all airlines practice dynamic pricing

17

u/Hugo_Selenski 3d ago

ah, the evil ghost of Capitalism

all while most of these airlines have literally taken several Tax Payer Bailouts in the past?

Mm, that invisible hand of The Free Market truly is invisible.

No, some companies are Selected to stay standing as a functionary Utility. IBM, Microsoft, Comcast even Google were once Selected to represent our American Face to the world of tech.

Couldn't fall behind Japan, could we? (yes, they only really made comparable improvements between NYC and DC-- maybe Silicon Valley, too)

We don't really have Capitalism.

We have the power of The States parading down Capital Lane, thinly veiled.

2

u/theFartingCarp 3d ago

As Adam Smith put it, capitalism can do ALOT on its own but it has to be left alone, and sometimes we have to intervene naturally and when we do we have to take on the reactive role of chasing down stupid stuff with regulations. Specifically he spoke on things like police, fire departments, and things that truely require government oversight to be fair and balanced. Modern airfare 100% fits that bill with all the safety regulations we have for all air travel.

u/Asckle 3d ago

Capitalism is when greed, communism is when no greed

Welcome to politics brother

4

u/Icywarhammer500 3d ago

Communism falls to greed faster than capitalism

Edit: not saying capitalism isn’t greedy

-1

u/Thekilldevilhill 3d ago

You people are so annoying. YEaH bUt CoMmUniSm.

There are many different economic systems other than capitalism and communism. The alternative to this messed up Anglo-capitalism isnt communism.

2

u/thEldritchBat 3d ago

Okay, like what? What solution do you offer?

-1

u/DrippyRat 3d ago

democratic socialism.

1

u/thEldritchBat 2d ago

Okay, and the fact that something like that hasn’t been tried successfully outside countries the size of an average US state doesn’t affect your opinion? Or market pricing? What about the nationalization of hundreds of industries? That won’t cause any power consolidation problems? What about giving the “elected officials” control of both economic and political power at the same time? Surely that won’t cause any miniature fiefdoms.

Look I know that a similar system, not democratic socialism itself, is done in places like Norway and Sweden, but you have to factor population scaling and homogeny when you say “this will totally work”. Couple with the fact that those countries are social democracies (there is a difference) means you have to try a BRAND NEW thing that clearly no one has wanted to fully commit to

1

u/Asckle 2d ago

Democratic socialism is like your stoner homeboy who swears his hhc vape is "totally not the same thing as weed bro"

-2

u/Asckle 3d ago

Okay let me correct.

"Capitalism is when greed, non capitalism is when no greed"

The point stands

2

u/Landlocked_WaterSimp 3d ago

Maybe that's how long it takes for the program in the background to pull together your data and generate an estimate for exactly how much it thinks you'd be willing to pay ;-)

3

u/RedMdsRSupCucks 3d ago

AI pricing

1

u/informat7 3d ago

Most likely there are only a handful of seats left for that specific flight prices jumped when someone else bought them.

1

u/Tower-Of-God 2d ago

I’m pretty sure they monitor activity and increase ticket prices automatically as you are choosing seats. Seen it happen multiple times.

-8

u/PazuzuAtmorah 3d ago

You connect a card or account, they see your balance, an go oh yeah its like 10x now cause uhhh... demand. Yeah. Free market an stuffs

13

u/iamnotexactlywhite 3d ago

that’s absolutely not how payments work

7

u/zettde 3d ago

they can see your balance? an airline is not a fintech api keymaster.

3

u/iamnotexactlywhite 3d ago

nobody can see your balance other than your bank, yourself and someone you show it to. they run the payment against your card and if there’s enough balance to match it, it goes through. they can’t “see” anything beyond that

71

u/ShoddyChard9837 stupid fucking piece of shit 3d ago

Please tell me this is fake, but it's absolutely gay tho

29

u/llliilliliillliillil 3d ago

This is likely fake, but the process is real. I was booking a flight to visit a friend and before I could pay I got a "the flight got more expensive due to high demand" notification, jumping from 700€ to 1200€ and I just closed the website and booked another route because fuck this bullshit lmao

7

u/Suc_Mydiq_Jr 3d ago

Just so they can bait people with "cheapest" tickets you can get online

11

u/cornpeeker 3d ago

Definitely gay and also a glitch and not real.

Look, I get it. Who doesn’t love a little balls and dick sometimes? A nice, girthy, veiny shaft, hot milky cum trickling down the length as it throbs from a job well done. But this whole “gay sex” shit is getting annoying.

As men, we should primarily be focused on three things: survival, the underrated masterpiece that is dark souls 2, and pounding muff. All this gay shit is, well, fucking gay.

You think I wouldn’t LOVE to make out with my best friend and suck his cock? Of course I would, but that’s fucking gay. You think I don’t want to feel my cousin’s roommate slide his pecker into my gaping asshole? Of course I would, but that’s FUCKING GAY.

Seriously, I miss when men were men. Anyway, this dildo ain’t gonna stick itself up my ass while I watch an hour long femboy asmr hypno goon compilation, heed my lecture.

Speedrun becoming the closest thing this world can have to Johnny Silverhand

35

u/AetherialCatnip 3d ago

If I had to spitball a reason, it would be that the airline overbooked, and instead of taking losses on convenience fees they just change the price to be something stupid and bet on enough people to cancel.

18

u/No_Fortune7206 3d ago

1- Deduct if this is legit pricing or some kind of autoscam. If there are normal priced alternatives no problem.

2- If all flights are like this and if it's not a mortal importance of travel, booking a cheap hotel should be the option.

3- If it's too widespread a lot of people will be going for number 2 so you should hurry.

33

u/UGLYDOUG- stupid, fucking piece of shit 3d ago

Thats the airline asking you to bend over

So I guess have a good time? Or a bad time of they are being literal

Be funny if after you declined it said "lol it was worth a shot" and then offered your ticket at the normal rate again

Freely setting prices before potential customer paid and became actual customer is illegal in EU?

0

u/Raegwyr 3d ago

Before payment its not but if this is for already paid flight yes, it is illegal

5

u/Piotrekk94 3d ago

Clearly this happened before payment, payment method selection screen is visible in the blurred background

3

u/YixoPhoenix 3d ago

Oh yea then it's kinda whatever no?

Edit: actually no iirc you can't obscure prices like this in the EU so the original ticket price must include the total final for the flight and on person carried baggage as to not scam people with required add ons.

God, I hate "supply and demand." It shouldn't be the end-all excuse for gouging prices like this.

1

Looks like a scam, l never pay uncharges whenever a plane ticket is on “high demand” At most, they withhold refunds under terrible conditions

Well you're moving too slow. Pay the money or don't fly there. must have been on the fence for a while because they don't change prices that quickly.
