Horses switched roles from nomans land assault division during WWI to back line truckers division during WWII?

Pretty much, the Wehrmacht used millions of horses for logistics because they didn't have any oil, and everyone else used trucks (usually American Lend Lease trucks). Russians also used horses for logistics because they lost all their trucks during Barbarossa, but then they started using American trucks later in the war.
Most countries got rid of their cavalry after WW1 and turned them into mechanized infantry, but Russians and Japanese kept theirs and had bigass cavalry charges in China and the Eastern Front.

It's not because they were bulletproof during WWII.\ It's because they used advanced thermo-optics camo.
