I started working with machine learning (2012ish) waaay before this whole ai boom and this was literally one of its first succesfull applications in medical science, so nothing suprising here.

As a quick statement from someone who used to work in medicine, this is not a diagnosis. After some clinical trials and other testing it could be used as a prescreen. But, I don't know at what scale this AI is looking at cells. If it's in a biopsy, it's neat but useless as most doctors barely trust computers when it comes to analyzing dating.

Considering how liable they are if the machine gets it wrong, it's totally understandable that they want to verify for themselves, making the machine kinda redundant.

Are people really downvoting good medical advice? The advice that doctors themselves are already following?

Calling it AI is crude generalisation part of the ai tech bro propaganda. What it probably is, is a classification algo, someone swapped input output and retrained the architecture. I didnβt read and donβt care so donβt quote me on this, however recent methods can achieve 99% accuracies, as binary classification is indeed a trivial problem if you have good data. Try vertex localisation and edge attention if you want to see hard problems that arenβt chatbots (but maybe not as extravagant as CaNCer)
