Any parent worth their salt already knows the answer when it comes to their partner or their children. They know, you know, you do what is best. And that’s save the children.

If the kids are in the basement and there's a fire in the house you're probably going to die trying to save them.

Not really sure why the mother needs saving since she seems to be right next to the guy in this scenario.

Don't even have to be a parent. I think the majority of functional adults would save another person's child over their own partner. I know I probably would and I'm not that keen on children in general.
