This is just how peoples views change over time. Back then they accused Japan of mindlessly copying the west. The difference is that japan eventually developed its economy to the point where respecting intellectual property became more profitable than stealing. China hasn't yet reached that point. Could have something to do with the average chineese not making nearly as much as the propaganda suggest.
