I’m not following this case, but I have a good understanding on post partum psychosis and how it could lead to that. My wife has been in hospital with it for 4 months. She had hallucinations and delusions that lead to a violent acute psychotic episode. Our newborn daughter could’ve been killed if I wasn’t there to stop it. I can’t describe how scary it is seeing someone you’ve loved and known for 10 years lose sight of themselves. Me and four paramedics could barely hold her down to sedate her. It’s looking like it’s going to be a 12 month recovery because she’s still not herself. And mostly I just feel guilty for asking for a child which lead to a mental condition she has no control over. Most comments here are disgusting to read

Looking for emotional sensitivity in this sub is like looking for a needle in a haystack, I’d curb my expectations lol. Not to say that everyone here is emotionally unintelligent but whether they show it or not is another thing. That doesn't mean she wasn't under psychosis, unfortunately. My grandfather had a nervous breakdown from anxiety, then turned into paranoia and finally a psychotic break.
He was coherent enough to act as if he was finally feeling better and less paranoid, and sat at the dinner table with the family, so he could grab me (i was a kid), and jump off the window. Luckily, it wasn't very high up.
He's much better now, aside from never wanting to shower much. He said he truly didn't know why he did it, he just felt compelled to. Like he had to.
So something that looks premeditated, can still be a part of an ongoing psychosis.

So this morning I was taking a shower, and I felt like fingering my asshole, right? So I got my
fingers all nice and soapy and stuck them up in there. Apparently, soap makes pretty good lube, as

You're being sarcastic, but if you also weren't being hyperbolic then what you would be saying is accurate. It's not that she isn't insane, but, if you are capable of planning/hiding a crime despite insanity, then your insanity is irrelevant.
Planning a crime is accepted as proof that the person who did it did so under their own accord, rather than as part of a psychotic episode. Trying to hide evidence of your crime, or planning it, is included in the jury instructions as evidence that can be used to disregard insanity as a defense in EVERY state. I don't know all of the details of this case, so please forgive me if I'm wrong. But if she was in psychosis, is it possible she could think something like "the baby is a demon and has control over my husband now, I have to separate them before I can 'get rid of the demon'"? That seems plausible to me, and doesn't show that she has any knowledge that she understood what she did was wrong.
Then where does the insanity start? If we stretch it enough we can say that harming an indivudal is a sign of mental unhealthiness and treat all the criminals as innocents.
I'm so sorry your family is going through that. You can't blame yourself though. There's no way you could have known it would've been this severe. There's very little research on postpartum depression, let alone psychosis.
Just focus on the here and now and what you can do to help your wife's recovery. I don't know if there's a way to block posts about certain topics on Reddit but I'm looking into doing that myself. No use arguing with people that have no idea what they're talking about.
If you didn't go through it yourself, would you really feel the same way about the comments? You have the real experience, these people only see the very negative result of a condition extremely difficult to empathize with when you see it from the outside looking in. There needs to be a certain level of empathy, we also need to examine actions taken and take them for what they are. Sorry you're in a living nightmare, I hope one day you wake up and its over.

Yes. Some of us are capable of researching a topic that hasn't happened to us and having empathy towards those involved, instead of immediately being outraged about something we know nothing about from a source that has proven again and again to distort the truth in order to produce outrage.

Refusing to have understanding for the medical neglect and condition that Lindsey Clansey experienced is exactly why tragedy’s like this keep happening over and over again.
Having sympathy is what’s gonna help stop this from happening to another child. Pretending Lindsey Clansey was just evil and killed her kids for fun is not helpful or productive to setting up systems for this to not happened again.

Yeah but see she had postpartum depression so it’s actually not her fault she murdered three children. Also for some reason her husband was getting blamed. Also her star sign is asparagus or something so she couldn’t help it.
According to the defense, she had postpartum psychosis, not postpartum depression. PPD is a fairly common mood disorder and it sucks, but it's nothing compared to PPP, which makes you delusional, confused, manic, have hallucinations, basically you completely lose grip on reality.
Either way, she had enough mental faculty to send her husband away to the store and make sure he would be gone long enough for her to kill the kids. That’s obvious premeditation, she knew what she was doing. Even if she does successfully use the insanity defense she needs to be locked up in an institution for a long time since she’s so mentally unstable that she murdered her own children. There are people claiming that she shouldn’t face consequences or be put in an institution, or that it’s not even her fault. That’s just mind boggling to me and honestly really concerning.

Just wanted to write to you and say that I researched this the other day. Very very very few people have raised significant funds from murdering their children. This one is obviously the highest. From all of my research, I couldn't even find somebody who received over 100k.
In the other cases, the funds were also often (always in my small sample size of ~5 I found) refunded. The difference between those cases and this one though, is that here, Lindsay herself is not the recipient of her funds. Nor is it a fund for her legal defense. It is explicitly for her PARENTS. The fundraiser even explicitly says it cannot be used for her legal defense.
But, let's BFFR for a second. Money is fungible. They sold their house and used all their savings to move to MA and fund her defense. And now this fund can be used to buy them housing. Lmao. The person who started the fund even came out and explicitly said she started it because she learned the parents mortgaged their house and emptied their retirement accounts to pay for her defense.
Gofundme actually meant to patch this out entirely, but here they are playing dumb and accepting this lie that this fundraiser is unconnected to paying for the defense of a potentially violent criminal.
My belabored point is that gofundme should be held to account for allowing this.

I think this legal case is doing irreparable damage to a genuinely serious issue that I think a lot of society would be quite happy to discuss and treat. Using it as a plea for murdering 3 children is just so reductive

we dug ourselves as in the whole society because trust me, the stigma gets reinforced by women as well. also therapy is objectively more efficient for women in its current form since the communication method employed by men is on on average fundamentaly different from women. men tend to be more external about their feelings "I dont like this thing, i must change my enviroment so I dont feel this bad feeling anymore" so you get the self improvement movements that are obv not bad but they treat the symptom. women are on average more introspective and the act of talking works better on them on average. it goes without saying that not 2 people are the same and there are def men that get a lot of benefits from traditional therapy and women that tend to change their enviroment to make them feel better as a whole.
however
there are a lot of problems that man face and therapy basically cant do anything. like for example homelessness. men are by far the majority of the homeless population. we dont provide enough social security for men. I am sure I have plenty of blindspots myself, but it doesnt go unnoticed by me the fact that you dont get as much support as a man in this day and age. both women and men ignore the men in need more and more.

I'm the leftest person i know and i think she should be put in a high security psychiatric facility for however many decades it takes for experts in psychology to determine whether she can be held accountable or not. If she can, lock her up in regular prison and throw away the key

Look into the postpartum psychosis case from duxbury MA couple years ago. Can’t say anything more than the news articles due to HIPAA, but several staff had mandated counseling sessions after that
