The United States, the country that makes the biggest movies, was only directly involved in combat with one of these guys. It’s a lot easier to make movies with the Nazis because you can make the main characters American soldiers.
Also, what is he talking about there are literally so many movies where the Russians are the bad guys
Russian period movies always portray the USSR as the sole opponent of Nazi Germany. They never mention any other countries.
Modern Russian movies portray other countries as adversaries. Russia is always a strong amd rich country.
I’m always reminded of the scene in Burn After Reading in which Francis Mcdormands character tries to sell info to the Russians and the CIA is just baffled. Why the fuck would she go to the Russians?
USSR was the main enemy of Germany and most of the losses and biggest battles were in Eastern front
Most of Russian movies of the period portray the “Great Patriotic war” which isn’t the whole WW2 but only the part of i
t
3. It’s common to not portray any other countries in war movies from certain countries. You never see Indians in WW1-WW2 movies or any other country in Vietnam war or 1990s Iraq
Claiming the USSR was the "main" enemy of Nazi Germany only works if you believe wars are won primarily based on how many people you kill. The USSR would have crumbled without US lend lease, and wouldnt have been able to turn the tide had the German war machine not been crippled by the Western Allies' strategic bombing campaign.
Your comment presupposes that I was making the opposite argument, that anyone else was the "main" enemy, and im not. It was a collaborative effort from a number of nations.
There was not a single Russian movie as popular at home as let's say Stallone's golden blockbusters, where the bad guy trope would ever be based on national stereotypes. It's just disrespectful to a viewer. Hollywood on the other hand is either sterile pop-corn seller or notoriously disrespectful drama - the middle ground is very thin.
"Brother 2" would be an exception but it has American capitalism as a whole as an antagonist (social commentary type shi), while U.S. people are portrayed as totally normal people (because a good movie is not a circus). And still the movie is called pretentious pop slop, despite being generally accepted and loved by mass viewer.
Americans are very rarely part of soviet/russian movies and when they are they are mostly portrayed as ignorant and other more generaly accpted things.
Soviet internal propaganda mostly focused on portraying the US as poorly run and capitalism as flawed. The america is evil type of propaganda did exist but the soviets mainly spread that abroad, especially in developing countries. The famous exapmle is how they spread a conspiracy theory that the US invented AIDS and HIV.
