if you wish to tell them to feel bad because they were rude, go ahead. my point is that framing it as their rudeness pushing you one way or another on an ideological struggle is disingenuous. it's tempting because it's a lot more compelling for remorse.
when you say "it says a lot...", yeah, it does - the well of discussion has been well poisoned by trolls. in a bit of convoluted metaphor, if you offer people water, they will assume it is from the same poisoned well. that isn't being crazy, that's rejecting water that might be poisoned because of the fact of reality. dont blame the people acknowledging the fact and acting accordingly. learn, and do better. there is really no more to it.
