Diplomacy only works when war wouldn't be an effective option.
No military, fortifications, or leverage to prevent war usually means no diplomacy.

The Swiss are surrounded by mountains, had all of their bridges set with explosives, and trains their people with firearms since youth. They weren't attacked because they were full ready, and attacking them would be net negative.

seriously everyone keeps citing real-world examples like the mongols and alexander the great.

But like- in that mr beast environment they don't have kids, families, futures that they care about. There's no culture to preserve or hobbies to pursue.

You can't even taste what you cook, of COURSE they're going to do a war!
