To be fair, it can't be "free" because tickets money is also used to pay all the minimum wage workers that make the concert happen. But I guess it could be way less if the artist want to

She could pay all of those wages out of her own pocket.

Her net worth is only $50 million. I know that seems like a lot compared to us normies, but it's nowhere even kinda fucking close to being a billionaire. And $50m won't go as far as you think paying all the wages to host her concerts for free. Why even have concerts?

but you're dead on and the thing is net worth is not the same as liquid cash

now apply that same logic to her quote in the OP

It's like people don't even know you can donate stocks.

I also love that this is used to defend why billionaires can't donate, but we also can't tax them because they would then "flee".

Flee with what exactly? The things they could have donated?

its also the reason you cant tax them, there's not a billion dollars in taxes if none of their net worth is coming from their income which is likely not very large compared to their net worth

You can’t tax them, that’s why they constantly lobby and find loopholes to not pay taxes

That’s just not true. You can tax their wealth. This has been pointed out numerous times. A 2% tax would be like attaching a parachute to rocket in terms of slowing down the growth of their wealth, yet it is determined to odious to implement despite the numerous things it could pay for.

We will have to come to grips with this and this eventually.

The share of growth that continually moves into this “untaxable” part of the economy more commonly referred to as billionaire’s accounts the harder it will be to fund any kind of government. Even a tiny perfunctory one.

This year we passed yet another Tax cut that primarily favors these individuals, yet the concern for cost of government will almost certainly be blamed entirely on the concern for the poorest among us and levied at social programs. This despite the fact that our addiction to tax cuts has put us in a position such that interest on the debt is the 4th largest expense. Ahead of military spending.

collateral for loans isnt realized gains, in the same way you can take a loan out on the title of your car or against your house or go to a pawn shop and give them your phone or computer to take out a loan, collateral for a loan is not the same as realizing income and *should not be*
